The ultimate Eurovision drinking game

Hello, bonjour, hola, ciao etc etc. and WELCOME to the notorious ‘Eurovision Drinking Game.’

We hope you’re thirsty and open-minded, because this could be an interesting night!

Firstly, for those who have never had the pleasure of watching Eurovision, you may have heard many a rumour. Below is a taste of what to expect from the show itself.

(Note: If you are a Eurovision regular, feel free to skip this section and head to the ‘Drinking game rules’)

What is Eurovision?

The ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ AKA ‘Eurovision’ is an annual multicultural entertainment extravaganza. Here’s the gist of what to expect…

Part 1: The singing

(Note: This is where the main bulk of the drinking occurs)

  • An artist/band from each of the 42 participating nations will take turns to sing/dance their socks off, in an attempt to burn their catchy lyrics into your brain and get your vote
  • Forget conventional, be prepared for super cheesy (sometimes awful, sometimes ridiculous) songs
  • Ready yourself for bizarre, over-dramatic performances. We’re talking glitter, fireworks, martial arts, glittery nuns doing martial arts etc.
  • Remember, the more memorable, the better! Hence why an Israeli woman doing the chicken dance and a bearded Austrian lady have won in recent years – Seriously!

Part 2: The results

(Note: If you still have some drink left, you can also make this into a drinking game)

  • After all the acts have performed, viewers will be able to vote for their favourite act
  • A representative from each nation will dramatically reveal their country’s votes, announcing their top 3 songs. They will award the maximum “12 points” to their favourite
  • After this long (sometimes exciting, but often painfully awkward) process, the act/nation with the most votes will be crowned the Eurovision song contest WINNER!
  • The winning nation will host next years contest

So, now you know what to expect from the show you’re hopefully feeling quite thirsty?!

The ‘Eurovision drinking game’ rules

Note: Please drink responsibly and know your limits. Eurovision is a long, crazy show, so there is a strong likelihood that you will be drinking often! We therefore recommend playing with a beverage that doesn’t contain a strong amount of alcohol.

Before the show starts

  • Get beverages and snacks ready
  • Pick your countries

There are 42 countries competing. Each player must select 2 nations at random. The ideal way to do this is by writing down the competing nations and picking them out of a hat/bowl/saucepan without looking. But if this is too much effort for you, just pick 2 of your choice! (Tip: It is beneficial to pick the countries that you think may score highly!)

During the singing

Support your countries

When your nation is singing, stand up with your hand on your heart for the entire performance. Once they have finished singing, shout the name of your beautiful nation and drink 2 fingers out of respect for their epic performance.

During the results

Each country will take turns to reveal how their nation voted.

If your selected nation is awarded the maximum 12 points, it’s your lucky day!

Nominate someone to drink 3 fingers

(Note: You can give all 3 to one unlucky victim OR you can also pick 3 separate friends to drink 1 finger each!)

If your selected nation gets 10 points, give out 2 fingers.

If your selected nation gets 8 points, give out 1 finger.
