Being over seas you end up finding food you fall in love with. I though it would be a great topic to list the stuff you loved but forgot the name of. I know there are a ton of things I have had but forgot. For example:

* When I lived in France they had a chocolate spread that they used like jam on a hard rye bread thing. It was awesome and I can not ever remember the name of it. Does any one out there have any clue what I am talking about?? I know they sell it here in the states but with out knowing the name it is hard to ask for...lol

Nutella! oh, yummy nutella... it's actually chocolate and hazelnut. There are other, more specialty brands of this spread but Nutella is by far the most widely known.

Nutella? prob. not but it was worth a shot.....It's basically like the insides of ferra rochez (sp. sux...).....but im sure youve already heard of it.......even still.......iz very good

Ohhhh thank God it has been driving me nuts trying to remember the name of that stuff. I am writing it down and maybe get a tatoo of it to not forget again...j/p But hey thanks alot everyone!!

That's because it is Nutella is made by Ferrera... there are a few other brands out there, although I can't remember the name. The stuff smeared on rye bread, at least that I've come across, is a bit different. It's got more of a cocoa and nutty flavor than the chocolatey creaminess of Nutella. I wish I could remember the name... d'OH!

Nah, we have it all over the place here now. It used to be harder to come by, but now it's at most supermarkets.

I checked out the nuttela site and looked at the recipes, I'm wondering why they all call for low fat milk, I mean this stuff is so bad i dont think and extra 2% fat in the milk is gonna make much difference. :greenguy:
Also i rememer when we were younger we used to have this supper suggary stuff on bread, i forget what that is called (but i'm pretty sure it comes from holland) any one know what it was called? They also has the chocolate curls that i used to scoff so much.

Also does someone kknow what graham crakers are? I always see them in recipes but i never know what they are.

It is so interesting the differences between countries! Everyone in the US knows what graham crackers are, but hmm...how do you explain them? Do you know what smores are? Maybe not, but graham crackers are sweet crackers, sometimes honey, or with cinnamon. It's a popular camping thing to put chocolate bars on them, and marshmellows, and roast them over the fire. Yum!

On my adventures with the Australians this past summer, I had many conversations about differences in names of foods between Australia and US. I had never heard of a sultana(sp?) before...it's a raisin here. And I tried to explain granola for awhile for us to decide if it is the same thing as muslie(sp?). And how do you explain what root beer tastes like? We were trying to figure out its equivalent. It was so fun! Yay Australia.

so....Here's something I stole off some weird help site........

What we merkins call "crackers" is more or less the same as the British "crackers": that is, a small square, usually white, with little holes interspersed for no readily apparent reason. They're sold either plain or salted, and the salted ones have little crystalline structures on them that could be either miniature cities or sodium-like thingies, but will come off and land on your hand in either case, making you a destroyer of worlds or just a messy eater. These are usually very bland, and very rarely eaten alone.

A graham cracker is an entirely different animal. These are rectangular crackers, approximately the size of eight regular crackers laid out two-by-four, and slightly thicker. Depending on the age (that is, how long they've been sitting in your cupboard), they are either crunchy or semi-soft. Both will leave crumbs everywhere just out of spite.

Zylah - I'm not quite sure what sugary spread you're talking about, but there's something I was introduced to at a young age.. In Iran we call it "Sar-Sheer" (Top of Milk) - they take the cream that collects at the top of a bottle/vat of milk and mix it with loads of granulated sugar, sell it in these little plastic tubs like butter, and you spread it on bread.. Really yummy, but you can feel your teeth eroding.

The site WAS actually beautiful site when I uh...read......it........with carebear pictures on the sides & beautiful daisies. so a graham craker is similar to what we would call a salada (although there are other brands Arnotts seems to be the most well known)

oh and for rasins, we normally call dried red grapes rasins and dried green grapes sultanas.
