Alright gurus of travel -
Where is the best place to go party in the midsummers sun? How shall I get there? I can fly out of either Amsterdam, Paris, openhagen or anywhere in Sweden/Finland.. I can also take the train/bus from any of those places. I have no issues with long rides. Basically, I'm not fussed, I just wanna get up there.
And... where's the best place to go? I've heard that in Finland it's more of a family/cottege weekend and in Sweden it's more of a party?
Anyway... advise me

Honestly, the only Midsummer's Day festivals I've heard a lot about are at Stonehenge in England, and some of the ones in Scandinavia where they celebrate the 24 hour sun...
I'm sure there are tons of them, but those are the ones that stick out in my memory...

Funny you should mention it...I just finally got around to reading my December issue of Maxim yesterday while on a long Greyhound ride...and it mentioned Midsummer Night in its list of The 10 Best Parties In The World.
Here's the information...
MIDSUMMER NIGHT
Norway, June 23, 2006; Sweden, June 24, 2006
The party: Take a couple of nations’ worth of supermodels, keep them indoors all winter, set them loose under a sun that never really sets, and what do you get? Thousands of drunk hot bodies who can’t wait to get naked. “Norwegians just enjoy taking their clothes off at Midsummer,” Norwegian-born model Veronica Trollerud explains. That’s why most young people seek out the nearest body of water, light a bonfire, get drunk, and pretend they’re married by finding some random person to sleep with.
Inside move: Norway has its party on the shortest night of the year, while the Swedes save theirs for the weekend. Hit the southern Norway coast first, then dash to Sweden the next day. “In Norway the party is best from Larvik to Tønsberg—the island of Hvalø is crazy,” says Sindre Østgård of Norwegian Broadcasting. “The fjords look like a swarm of huge fireflies, with thousands of fires burning while people drink, skinny-dip, and have passionate sex with someone they haven’t met before.” Next day, hop the ferry at Sandefjord for a $5 trip to Strömstad in Sweden.
What to bring: A gift of beer will let you hitch a ride on someone’s boat.
Local fuel: Aass beer, which tastes better than it sounds.

In Finland, they also celebrate by getting blitzed and lighting bonfires on the long weekend, called Juhannus. It's basically a similar celebration to Norway's and Sweden's. In Finland, many Finns go out to the countryside to their cottages to celebrate Juhannus, so I don't know how big the parties are in the city.
Enjoy! I'm jealous!

The baltics were the last European countries to convert to Christianity, and still hold their old Pagan rituals in pretty high esteem. St. John's night (or midsummer) is the big one. Look into events in Lithuania and Latvia, too. www.vilnius.lt will have links to upcoming events around Lithuania.
