Does anybody know of any good Hip Hop (not HipPop) clubs in England, France, Germany, Italy or Spain that would have some good local crews performing or at least an open mic?

And, where would some good record shops with a wide variety of local Hip Hop?

Marseille, France does! THey have big Morrocan, Senegalese, and Tunisian neighborhoods where you can see people just like....raping in the street if you're there at the right time. Marseille's really cool. I recommend it!

I've decided I'll pretty much only go to hip hop clubs in Europe - with the exception of the occasional underground show in the US. No ghetto/thug vibe, cool people, totally diverse crowd, everything one could ask for in a hip hop venue...

That said, I was a big fan of the Key club (King's Cross, London) - very chill, mostly student-aged crowd, a couple of local MCs, and some of the most laid back bartending and security staff I've ever encountered. There was this breakdancing midget with a tall, model-hot girlfriend - THAT's what kind of cool-ass scene I found in there...

As far as European artists go, my French friends listen to some north african and French rappers, but even before I heard any of that, I was a big fan of France's MC Solaar - smoothest delivery of rhymes. Ever.

there are loads of venus around the UK, often the best way is pick up a paper when you get to a city or ask some people on the street that look like they know the music scene

Thanx. I'll check that out. Street sessions are always where you'll find the best emcees. The ones who don't give a shit about fame, just like me.

I used to be a ghetto thug and still kinda am, so I usually don't have a problem with that but I know what you are talking about, sometimes its more trouble than its worth. I only go to underground shows now because most wannabe gangstas dont listen to underground, it requires too much brain power to understand the lyrics.

Dope. I'll check that place out. Do you know if there is an open mic night?

Yeah I heard of that cat Solaar when he did the collaboration with Guru, he is raw and I don't even know what the fuck he was saying.

Thanx for the 411,
Peace.
