Hi, just a shout out to those planning to attend the 20th World Youth Day in Cologne.

I'm a 20 year-old student from Perth, a first time pilgrim from Western Australia travelling with a group from the parish of St. Thomas More in the Bateman diocese.

It'd be nice to network with some fellow pilgrims and maybe hear some travel advice from those who've been before.

Hope to see some replies!

I went to WYD in Denver in 1993, and part of the one in Rome in 2000. They are pretty cool events. Certainly a sense of solidarity. Enjoy!

World Youth Day is an event held every other year in a different country at hosted by the Pope (John Paul II) for youth. There are usually millions in attendance. They are expecting 5 million in Cologne.

Well, just plan to do a lot of walking. I'd pack a good number of tshirts and a good water bottle or a camelbak. A seperate day pack might also be wise. Oh and bring a book for times you are waiting for things to start...things move slow with that many people.

You'll have a blast!

hey beergal =)

you'll find younger Catholics more liberal and accepting of other faiths/beliefs. Sucks to hear you've had a bad experience before though.
