Has anyone been to this legendary London techno club? How is it and is it tough to get into on any given night? I want to make it to at least one big techno club while in London. Any other reccomendations?

MOS in London sucks ass! Its full of tourist and people wanting to be seen. You'll find a ton of publications listing the events at different venues when you arrive in London. Getting in isnt a problem if ya show up at a decent time. Dont worry about finding a phat super club, London is loaded with them. There is a great site on Londons club scene but I cant remember what it is. I'll check into it

I've lived in London and now live on the outskirts, but when I go into London for a night out, I try to change the clubs each time I go.........heres a fairly useful site... My friends and I flick onto it for info....clicky
I love The Purple Turtle, but they play my type of music, which is either Rock, or punk, or Trance. So, I'm always happy there, plus they have cages, ooh, and also, they have these wicked tables which are actually space invaders games. If you can imagine it.

The Basement is always good fun. More of that kind of Indie, rock music...

The Fridge is a very good club. Tons of big Dj's play there. And Radio 1 go there too because of the music. Which is house music.(famous club)

Fabric is very good too. Drum + bass, house etc... (famous club)

The only place I can think of for good techno is SEone. I've never been there, but one of my friends has, and he seemed to have enjoyed it. They are often open til really early in the morning, like 5 or 6 ish am. Check that place out. It's in central London.

Hope thats of any help.....
Ooh, if you do go, have a good time!

no, mark farina is blasphemy. HO!

in all fairness though - shit, i think i have warmed, if only a little to techno. i just discovered a great song by groove armada, highly techno, highly un-me... but it's great.

Mark Farina's inconsistent. He can be an absolute LORD at times (his set at the last Coachella fest rocked), or he can be absolutely coked out of his mind and play the same freakin' loop over and over for 2 hours. That's my opinion anyway

Groove Armada's one of my favorite acts. Their DJ sets are great, but when they pull out the whole live ensemble, they're damn near unbeatable. They recently did a short live gig in London for Essential Mix. If anyone's around the UK, etc. in June, they're playing the Isle of Wight Fest on the 11th, opening for the Chili Peppers in Dublin on the 12th, and rocking Glasto on the 25th. (Last one HIGHLY recommended, but if you don't have tix already, I dunno what you can do...)

Anyway, I second skipping MOS, but if you can get yourself on the free guestlist (http://viewlondon.com/info_club_185.html#guestlist) then you can at least go check it out and see what the fuss is about.

lali puna, i guess, is more electronic - i'm shit at this classification stuff anyway... but they're great too.

Islington Academy in London is good, it has two big rooms, one of which plays classic rock and heavy metal, and the other plays punk, ska and general kool tunes!!
Fabric, very good, but expensive, and the other is called Metro and it has classic punk, ska, and rock tunes going on there!

Nah, Glasto's great! Ok, so I went in 2002 when it didn't rain, the field didn't turn into a big pile of cowshit, and it was my first time seeing both Orbital and Groove Armada live. That aside, though, it was still probably the best festival I've ever been to Between the Dance Tent and the Other Stage, I thought I'd gone to heaven.

I've been wanting to hit Creamfields forever, but haven't had the opportunity to make it over. I also met one of the organizers of Homelands over here in San Francisco and we drunkenly talked about me having an early Dj slot last year, but I was a bit too mashed and only got unintelligible bits of his contact info on my voicemail.

The V 2004 lineup looks pretty nice - could do without the Strokes as headliners, though, since listening to them live is like having the CD on shuffle. 'Course, I'm stuck seeing them tomorrow at BFD (crappy schedule here). Coachella in Southern California rocked last month. By far the best fest in the US now: Coachella.com
