Default Florence Fun!

When traveling through Florence on a Contiki, we went to a club called Space Electronica. I was skeptical purely because of the name but we all had so much fun there! They played all the best dance music from all years. Also, they served drinks on a weird system. You bought a card good for 3 drinks so you didn't pay the bar tender directly. It's a strange system but it worked. Anyone else hear of something like that?

In Salamanca you could drink for free. They would hand out cards in the Plaza Mayor for free Sangria at Camelot.

As you may have guessed it sucked, but hey its free. What do ya expect?

Btw I read your blog last year and agreed with your Venice commentary.

Another great place to drink is a irish bar called joshua tree it is 5 minutes away from the train station. there happy hour is til 9pm and everything on tap is 3 euros a pint including guiness, murphys stout and heineken. great place, to get there :when you walk out the train station through the front door so the mcdonalds is on your left hand side, you want to go right down the street on the right, not the street that goes by the train station , then keep walking til you get to a fork in the road and take a left and on your right hand side itīll be there.

I was in a large Irish Pub in Milan that did a similar thing. You had to buy drink tickets from a little booth near the door, and then present them to the bar tender for a drink. Pain in the ass. It's sad when a country's love for bureacracy filters down into the drinking culture!

^ I wonder if that comes from the nontipping culture? In the US you'll notice that beer is often 4 dollars so it is convenient to tip the dollar for an even 5. Maybe they view it as faster to sell tickets so the bartender doesn't have to make change?

I saw an ad for that Space Elctronica place in my Contiki brochure (I'm going on a tour start of May) and I thought it looked really dodgy.

I'll have to check it out now though. Was it expensive there?

"The best disco in Florence" Can't argue with that.

they got the cards so you have to buy a certain amount of drinks as italians tend to go into a bar, stay all night and only drink one small beer
