My sister came to visit me for a few days over the weekend, and we had a great time, the atmosphere in Cologne for the world cup is fantastic. eveyone we have met has been so friendly and just here for a good time. we must have met people of at least 10 nationalities.

Theres 2 big screens, one next to the cathedral and another at the other end of the pedestrian area. they are also building another one on the banks of the river because they have been so popular. We watched the england match at one of them on saturday, and it was great. you cant take any food or drinks in with you which sucked a bit, but €2.50 for a beer (a bit smaller than a pint i think, £1.75ish) isnt too bad, i was expecting it to cost more. £2 for a glass of water though! and it was well over 30 degrees celsius!

anyway heres a few pics, nothing very interesting though, we were pretty drunk:

My sister with some england fans:

Me and my sister:

My sister with a Brazilian (i am sure he couldnt speak english or german, and my sister cant speak portuguese, so we have no idea how they were communicating! like i said we were drunk...)

Some scousers we met in a pub

Theres been so many england fans around, but they are expecting 120,000 for the match here on tuesday! should get a bit

I was out on wednesday night as well to watch the Germany match, just went to a pub in the student area. a great game, and i have to admit i was a germany fan for the night - i was the only foreigner in the pub . then we went outside after the match and the street outside was closed off and there must have been 10-15 thousand people celebrating the win. really amazing. will be interesting to see what its like if they win the world cup!

We were in a hotel full of Germans in Paris on game night. The place went wild. It was awesome. Not as great as Cologne, though!

We're going nuts here though - we have satellite radio, but the english sports station has some kind of contractual problems and can't broadcast the games, so they play old Liverpool games instead (like two, three years old...oy!) Of course the american stations are clueless, so we end up choosing between the two french broadcasts or the italian one. In the car, Italian is all we get (which is so fun to listen to, even though neither of us understand it), but at home I can translate the scores and highlights off the french channels - play by play is WAY beyond me! My husband wants a tv SOOOO bad right now!

Yeah, that must be frustrating! Although i dont think ive watched one match at home yet!

What is annoying for me is that everyone wants to come and stay, my brother arrives tonight, as england play in cologne tomorrow - appartently they're expecting 110,000 england fans

I went up to the stadium on saturday to try and buy tickets for czech v. ghana -what a match that was! we couldnt get tickets, i think now everyone knows its possible more people are doing at and the demand is greater too. the cheapest we found was €200, but most wanted as much as €300-400. considering my friend paid €200 for tickets to all angolas matches, that seemed too much. plus im saving up for my trip as well.

Im looking forward to tomorrow though. the atmosphere should be great, especially if both germany and england win.

It just sucks a bit that i have to work until 5 and then again at 8 the next morning so im not gonna be able to do much celebrating!
