decided on a place
well, we've been trying to decide where to take our vacation for next year, and we've made our decision.
we are going to grand cayman for 10 days. we *might* fly to cuba from there, depending on finances at the time.
my husband's best friend lives and works in grand cayman, so we'd have a place to stay, and food to eat. he has kindly offered to pay for our activities when we are there, which is amazing and so generous of him.
it will be a great trip, and i'm so happy that we'll have friends to spend time with when we arrive!

congrats on choosing a place! Grand Cayman is a great island... beautiful beaches (7 mile beach) and you can go to "Hell" literally, there is a town called Hell. LoL Good laugh when you come home and tell the story. It is a quaint little island.
Enjoy your visit! :D

Congrats, ashlee! Looks like the only thing you need to pony up money for are the plane tickets .
And, if Cuba is an option, I've heard nothing but awesome reviews from friends, relatives, and fellow travelers that have been there before. It's most likely going to change for the worse once Fidel's presence is gone (a lot more touristy and not as intimate).

WOW! Thats my kind of trip!!!! Free lodging/food/activities, and friends to hang with that also have knowledge of the island! Get your asses to the beach and start sipping.... When do you head out?

this won't be until the last week of february, so i've got plenty of time to figure out an itinerary of events, places i want to see, things we'd like to do, etc.
how far in advance would you guys recommend booking the flight? right now the cheapest i'm finding for two tickets from halifax to grand cayman is about $2300 in total, but i'd really love to get off cheaper than that. do the prices generally go down as you move closer to your date?

If you're not opposed to adding a plane transfer in the mix, it could save you money flying into Miami or Orlando first, then hopping a flight to your final destination.
Just a thought...
