Spring Break trip?
Just looking to possibly switch up my plans for spring break. I currently have a flight booked from Columbus to NYC for 36 dollars with tax... So if I change plans, it's not like I'm breaking my bank for it.
I'm interested in going somewhere perhaps warm, and foreign... I would like to keep flight expenses under $500, but if something is just a bit more, please by all means suggest it.
I think I can come up with $1000 total(including the price of airfare), for a weeks stay. You can go ahead and add in there another $300 with a credit card(which is still interest free so why not haha).
The reason for this is my plans have changed, my mom wont be able to make it with me to NYC... Thus making NYC almost to expensive. And when I go to NYC, I really want to go to the Yankees game before they tear down Yankee Stadium. Thus, I'll wait for a late spring/summer trip.
So by all means suggest away.
My possible dates are March 7th through March 16th(if flying March 7th, it has to leave late in the evening). Would like to get a week minimum, but $$$ is definitely the deciding factor.
Thanks all,
Andrew

I might add I'm not looking for parties or places with a bunch of people. Though I am a sucker for touristy destinations sometimes.
Would like this to be as relaxing as possible, and a chance to see things I would never get to see.

well the obviously Cancun is out - but I doubt you'd get a reservation anyway. I would suggest somewhere in Central or South America - the majority of your cost would of course be airfare, but otherwise it's relatively inexpensive. Perhaps Ecuador or Peru? somehwere along the Amazon... ?um... hmm. Cancun is cheap to fly into and I think you can take a cheap bus to other parts in Mexico or Guatemala or something also...

That would be very neat. Seeing Costa Rica that ranges from 378-500+... I did forget to realize that most of these places will be cheaper, so I guess I can definitely splurge more on travel.
Cancun wouldn't be so bad as long as the Isla of Mujeres is still "off the beaten path" as it once was. My professor told me that 10 years ago it was nothing like Cancun.
So I definitely would consider it.

well the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza are a must see and they're like 2 hours from Cancun. Marc & Roxy should be back from Cancun soon so I'm sure they'll have pictures and stories. and Jamie (LiveFreeorDie) was in Mexico City not too long ago, so that's another option.
I read somewhere the cheapest country in the world to visit was Paraguay...

You could tour around Mexico a bit by bus. You could fly to Mexico City, stay 3 or 4 days to check out the city and also other cool spots within 2 hrs or so of the city by bus (day trip range). Then, you could take a bus to Acapulco (west coast beach resort city) which is only about a 3 or 4 hr bus ride from Mexico City and hang out there for a few days to soak up some rays and then bus back to MX city to fly home. Acapulco is rather touristy though, but maybe you could explore up or down the coast there a bit to find quieter places. You could also take a bus somewhere else in Mexico that might interest you. The great thing about Mexico is they have an unbelievable bus system that is reasonably priced and very high quality. I only wish we had buses like they have..seriously - first class buses are great - almost like business class on international flights.
Good luck!

Well being that my original plan was Cancun, I'll try to narrow it down to either Cancun or Mex City. Good prices for roundtrip airfare to Cancun, and nonstop at that. I hear of places south of Cancun that offer cheap places to stay on the beach in a "hut"(can't think of the correct term) off the beaten path of touristy Cancun.
Thanks so far, and keep it coming. I'm never set on anything.

I just posted this map on another thread, but as you can see, the Yucitan peninsula has a lot to offer. We heard a lot of good things about Xel-Ha and Tulum.

If you want beautiful beach and less people than Cancun...stay further south of Cancun somewhere else in the Riviera Maya....it's absolutely GORGEOUS and you miss out on the majority of people in Cancun. Do it!!!!!
