7-10 days where to go?
I need help! I am dying for a trip before I start school, but it is extremely short notice as school starts November 5.
I really don't care where I go, beaches or more of a cultural experience. I would be backpacking, and only speak English. I just really need some ideas. The trip would be about 7-10 days, money isn't really an issue, cheaper is of course better though! Somewhere with a good public transportation system and I really don't have to book in advance, just show up and get a room in a hostel would be perfect.
Any ideas would be awesome and a huuuuuge help! I would probably be flying out of Edmonton, Alberta.

You can't go wrong with Europe and at this time I bet you have very little problems booking hostels.

This is when I buy a ticket to Costa Rica (where many people speak English) and just sit on a beach and surf for a week.
Or, Hiking in the Maritimes.. NB or NS

Hum, Central America - Belize or CR, and of course Europe, anywhere
If we could narrow things down, it may help.

Central America!
If I could get through without speaking a lick of Spanish you probably can too. With 10 days and cost not being a problem I'd probably hit up Utila in Honduras and go diving, and diving, and diving.
Hmm, maybe Jamaica? Bit more expensive though.

Well... this is a hard question ...
Isnt it folks?
7-10 days... wow... thats all?
You can do 1 or towns in that...
If i had only 10 days , and money wasnt an issue... it really depends on what you want to see? Do you want history or culture? Do you want to be a tourist and see those iconic sites or live the good life for a week?
If my plan was a open canvas, I would want to go somewhere everyone and thier mother havent been..
ie.... if you tell you went to paris and rome... youll get a "thats neat...yawn" answer... everyones done that. So maybe look at somewhere different? South America maybe?
One thing you dont have allot of is time to plan. Maybe go to a quality dare I say , travel agent? and see what they can work for you... the more fluid it is, the less time youll be sitting in at train station for 5 hours because all the hostels are closed and you f'ed up the schedule...
just my 2 pesos.

Oh, i would probably check out travelzoo's top 20 or sta's last-minute deals and see if something random appealed. Like this week travelzoo (for the US) has flights to Mexico for $84, or a promo from Seattle to Hawaii for $250. Things like that!

That sounds awesome and the last minute deals is a really good idea too! I was in Europe earlier this year and it is getting chilly here, so a nice break to a beach might be what I need before the show starts flying. With only about a week I am thinking central america might be a really nice idea.
Thanks guys for the ideas, eek now I have to make some choices haha.

I completely forgot about immunizations. Crap, Hep A needs 2 weeks at the least! If I get it as soon as possible and it is almost two weeks do you guys think that would be close enough. Crap!

Are immunizations required? I tend to not worry much about these things, lol. No harm getting your shots asap anyway. I drank only bottled water in Central America and didn't bother with anti-malarials or anything.

PM'd you back!
Worst thing that happened bug and disease-wiise was that I had sandfly issues on Roatan, but I hear they aren't as bad on Utila. Pack the bugspray though!! Plus the islands are largely English-speaking so that won't be as much of an issue as other parts of CA.

I drank the water in Costa Rica and had no problems what-so-ever... but I think I had a strong stomach back then

Just to let everyone know, thanks so much for the ideas. I did go to Utila and had the most AWESOME time! The diving was incredible, the people I met were amazing. My dive group clicked right away and we all got along so well, so we had a blast (not to mention the hot guys in the group :P).
If anyone is looking for a quick and cheap trip, I would suggest there in a minute!
