Sudpfanne Hostel - Heidelberg, Germany

When I was in Heidelberg, Germany I stayed at the Sudpfanne Hostel, which I believe is the only hostel in Heidelberg, but it's really great none the less.

It's part bar, part German restaurant, part hostel. Staff is very nice and you get a discount in the restaurant and in the bar if you're staying at the hostel. It's located right on the main street that everything cool in Heidelberg is, if you're a tourist. The castle was a 10 min walk (the road was literally right out the door but it took so long cos it's uphill) from there.

Stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm. It was pretty quiet but could be cos I went on a Sunday/Monday, but cool crowd of folks there in my room anyway.

Separate individual bathrooms out in the hall, and each room has it's own little living room area with couches too.

There isn't really internet there but if you ask they will let you use the laptop in the bar for free no problem. If someone else is on it, there's an internet cafe like 3 min away that is like 1 euro for a whole hour.

Only complaint is that it's hard to get to if you don't take a cab cos the way Heidelberg's streets are and because the haupbahnhof is so far away from downtown. I took a cab for like 20 euros and sucked it up though.

Definitely stay here! And the crowd there, like in my room were people my age and one woman who was like 60, and she was awesome too!

Thanks for the suggestion! I was looking for a place to stay while there. it looks like I'm going to be there during St. Patricks Day! How is the bar scene? i'm hoping there will be something going on since it is the best holiday of the year!

The bar scene was pretty decent, even for a Sunday when I was there! It was a great scene, Heidelberg was my favorite place of my entire trip to Germany and Poland so it comes highly recommended. The Hostel is located right on the main drag, and there's a bar/restaurant in there and you get discounted everything if you are staying in the hostel. But if you walk down the main drag there are restaurants/bars in the area and I met some other travelers and had dinner and bar/restaurant hopped a little.
