Dublin:
Ashfield House on 19-20 D'Olier St. We stayed in a 12 bed dorm room w/ 2 toilets & 2 showers. They had lockers you can store your items in for a few euros. We did not & had no problems. Hostel is right in the middle of it all. Thought it was great.
Kinlay House ChristChurch on 2-12 Lord Edward St. We stayed in a large dorm styled room w/key pad lock on door. Met great people, architecture was great. Had cages attached to the underneath of the bunks for safe storage of items. Locks for cages cost extra. But I would say it would be worth it since a fellow hosteller had 50 euros stolen while we were all there.
Waterford:
Maryland B&B. Well, we should have called ahead to reserve a place. We realize that now. But atleast we had an adventure. We stayed here because, after walking around the town for 2 hours and finding nothing available (or in existance anymore), this was the only place left. It cost twice as much as a nice hostel & was not nice itself. But, if you need a roof over your head, this place will do.
Killarney
Aghadoe House. It is affiliated with An Oige and is sometimes referred to as Cill Airne. This was the best hostel we stayed in while travelling in Ireland! The showers had heated water all the time and the rooms were heated all the time as well. The hostel was beautiful - is actually a mansion with beautiful grounds that back up to the Killarney National Park. A short walk down the road takes you to the bright orange bar. If you don't want to walk to town - please try to make the bus. The walk to the bus station wasn't a mile as previously thought, and we had added rain & icing. But once again, it makes for a good story & was funny at the time as well. All this to say that this hostel, albiet, is out of the way - but is very worth it!
Doolin:
Rainbow Hostel. Such friendly people work here! We sat in the den playing cards, listening to the celtic radio station while being warmed by a peat fire. A short walk away you will find some shops and bars. The Cliffs of Moher are very close by & must be seen.
Hope this is atleast somewhat helpful and I haven't rambled too much.

Just want to say i support the reccommendation of ashfield house. I stayed there this feb for 3 nights in a 4 bed, one bathroom dorm and despite the dubious security (pieces of paper as security passes), it was just so friendly, clean and alive - defintely going back there!

Just thought id put the word bout Globe trotters hostel in dublin.Its just beside the main bus station in the city.Its clean has friendly and helpful staff and they make a mean cup of coffee in the morning. ^_^

Also have to agree with the Kinlay House. It was really nice and clean, the common room/kitchen was huge and very nice. It was also in a great area.

here's some help on this too.

Brown's Hostel: dont reccomend. i stayed there and while the hostel is decent with a common room w/ kitchen and stuff. i was in there with what appeared to be a bunch of bums. felt more like a halfway house or homeless shelter than a hostel (at least when i was there)

Jacobs Hostel: has an 11-3 lockout but the place is decent. lockers to put your stuff in although i think they charge u like a euro a day for them. the rooms were nice and had their own bathroom in them for a dorm of 10 beds i think.

Isaac's Hostel: affiliated with Jacob's i think. decent place, has a deli attached to it. also has an 11-3 lockout but thats just of the dorms. u can stay in the common area. bathrooms were decent and clean. the shower didnt get hot but it was warm enough.

for me the cheapest place was Jacobs at 10 euro a night but i was there during an off time and its normally more expensive. Isaac's was 17 a night or soemthing like that and Brown's was 14 or 15.
none of them were the worst or best places that ive been in but i would say Jacob's is the nicest of the Dublin places ive been to.

ive heard lots of good stuff about the ashfield house and was reccomended to stay there from a couple people but it was 20+ a night and i figured the money saved could be spent experiencing dublin and not just the hostel in dublin.
save the money, buy a pint!
