Question The Generator -- London

I have heard a lot of great things about the generator hostel in London that it is the place to go if you're a partier and want to have a good time, but is it safe for a single girl?

I was there as a single female and had a blast.... and you don't have to be a huge partier, but if you want to its always an option

We always have debates over this hostel but I give it two thumbs up!

I am really torn on it also Carolyn. If you want cheap beer and a party environment it is absolutely for you. On the other hand, it can get out of hand with people vomiting, police coming to physically remove people etc. (Not sure if my experience was typical or not...)

I feel really bad for anyone with a flat that opens to the courtyard of the Generator :P

i had a great time there but i didn't sleep much. lots of loud drunken germans on my floor, haha. easy to meet people in the breakfast room and at the bar.

Yeah see I had no problem sleeping and honestly it wasn't that crazy when I was there... so really it's all about timing.

I stayed there for two months at one point and never saw any girls have any problems, although one did OD on something. The security is pretty professional and they let the party stretch into the night but keep things safe. The noise can be a problem, but the solution there is simply to drink yourself into a restful slumber.

Default ok

I stayed there (being a single female). I had fun there, and appreciated the staff, who let me check my bags early and get free breakfast before I could check in, but didn't notice any outragous partying. There was a cool jazz bar up the street that I spent some time at. Good location and large. I'd stay again, and didn't fear for my safety.

This is great news to hear bc I'm going to be staying at this hostel in August and I'm going by myself for the first time and keep wanting to make sure it is a safe place to stay. Does anyone know if the lockers in room are fairly big? Sounds like a great place to have fun and meet people and I def don't mind noise Knowing they might let me check my luggage early is good to know too bc I think I'll be getting there before actual check-in time.

From what I remember (I stayed there 5 years ago) they had full sized lockers and I was easily able to fit my bag in it.

The luggage room is different from the lockers though right? I mean, they have the lockers then if you need extra room that's when you go to the luggage room? I'm thinking I won't be needing that room but that's good to know just in case I do. Thanks!

yeah, the lockers in the rooms are usually big enough to put your pack right into. i'm trying to remember if they have lockers at the gen though...ok, looking back at pictures i do see some lockers. oh and from what i remember, the female-only dorms were alot more spacious.

So I haven't stayed at the Generator, since i am a St. Christopher's Village kind of London girl, but I hear they are about the same: Party, bars, club, cheap drinks. Lots of fun and lots of people to meet. I've passed by the Generator a few times when I was staying in a flat with some friends, and it's in a great area. Loads of places to eat just down the street, close to awesome museums and St. Pancras/King's Cross is right there, lots of students live around there too!

Should be a blast, except for the weather !
