Hey all, I just wanted to let on to my two cents. I stayed at the Astor Hde Park hostel and found that pretty much everyone there was travelling with a group and was very exclusive when it came to accepting new (solo) people. This could have obviously been a one time fluke, but I stayed in the Generator on my way out of London and much prefer it.

Odd.. I consider that place my second home and I've always traveled there alone! I can totally see that, though, I've seen it many times in the lounge downstairs and felt sorry for the poor souls who didn't branch out of their little groups - but for every group like that, there were other people to hang out & connect with, so it didn't bother me too much!

I booked this place, based on omisan's love of it, however, I have a cousin who is working in London for a few months & insisted I stay with him in Knightsbridge (yeah, man! la-dee-da!). I went to get my stuff from my room (I had dropped it off quickly so I could see the town, baby) & went to use the loo. There were 3 of them nearby & all 3 were grody & out of order. I mean G-ross! The upside was I did get a refund for the remainder of my stay (except the first night, of course) and the staff was quite friendly to me. Tidy hostel, no. Good area & sociable--seemed good to me. Although, I gotta say they have the worst keyboards for their computers in London!
