Oh man, if you're going to Texas make SURE you know WHERE in Texas you're going! Driving through that huge state is hell especially on the western side..it's desert and nothingness (at least the parts I saw) . Get thee to San Antonio and Austin

Good luck with the interview. I've only spent a weekend in Chi-town but I liked it. One of my buddies moved there and loves it.

I love Chicago! Out of all the cities I"ve been to the US it's definitely my favorite. There are so many great art museums and things to see and do, not to mention the FOOD! I stayed at the Arlington Hostel in the Lincoln Park neighborhood... down the street is a hot dog stand called the Weiner Circle... visit it at night, you will be shocked and amazed!! Google it if you want to know more... it is totally worth it for a taste of something pure Chicago!!! You must, you must, you must GO!!!!
Here's my advice for LA. I have some family there so I have a bit of a biased opinion, I'm not really a fan. Traffic is terrible and it's expensive! However, it would be fun to visit if you're interested in seeing Hollywood and stars homes and all that real touristy stuff. Or, head straight to Santa Monica and the beaches and all of that... gorgeous area. I'm pretty sure there is a hostel in Santa Monica right off of the beach, I've heard its awesome.
So, I guess decide what it is you want to see in LA to decide if it's worth dealing with the hustle and bustle of the city. I know nothing about public transportation there, as far as I know everyone drives, but I'm sure there's something. There are other really great areas in Cali. Personally, I'd skip LA and go to San Fransisco if I were visiting the state.
Hope that helps a bit! Your trip sounds so exciting!

^^Hostel look great, gonna book there!
Ive started looking into hostels now and noticed some where already booked up (in the big cities) and was wondering if I should book a bed the whole trip, or just as I go along?
My plan was just to book the first 3 places (Boston, NY, Philly) so I could have the rest of the trip to move around as I like booking along the way. I dont want to get stuck without a bed though....This part is the wrost part of planning.
Do you think its worth becoming a member of HI?
Any hostels you can recommend for my stay in each place?

I know you said you might skip Denver - if you do but are keeping Austin (as the Texas place in your itinerary and Las Vegas, one alternative might be to go through Phoenix, Arizona. You might even be able to go up and see the Grand Canyon before heading west again to Sin City.
