Back when I was in high school I couldnt wait to leave this city, I was tired of all the same old crap all the time. Now Ive just returned home after being gone for some time and I have come to realize how much this city really has to offer (most of these things I havent even done or been to yet). Cincinnati Zoo, the Cincinnati library (its like 3rd or 4th biggest in the nation), Museum of natrual History, Union Terminal, Paul Brown Stadium(Bengals), Cinergy Field (Reds), Newport Aquarium, Botanical Gardens, Sawyer Point, and Fountain Square. If its amusment parks you want then you may enjoy visiting Coney Island, The Beach, or Kings Island. If you are looking for cheap dining GOLDSTAR, or SKYLINE CHILI IS A MUST!! These are two chain restraunts in town that serve Cincinnati style chili which is what Cincy is known for, and it is excellent my friends (chili is made with chocolate which makes it very unique). Want something a bit more pricey? Try Desha's, The Precinct, or The Masonette (5 star). If you want to hit up some of the local clubs, then try Metropolis, The Yucatan Liquor Stand, or Motions. If you want to check out some local or national rock acts try Riverbend, Sudsy Malone's, or Bogarts. These are just a few of the things to check out in the City, so if you are ever traveling through, I think it would be well worth taking a day or two to check out the sites! B)

Wow! You´ve done your homework! It´s nice to be back home after a long sabatical. Being away definitely helps you to appreciate your own backyard. It really does sound like a city worth checking out and I´m ALWAYS up for a great big-ass bowl of chili :P !

thanks man i just found this site a couple of days ago-b/c i am taking a backpackin trip over to europe and thought germany--wherever i my end up--but the reason that i looked at your comments is b/c i have to take a bus trip to ciny in about 8 days--i had no idea taht there was that much to do!! wow--to be honest i was kind of bumed out about going there--just b/c i have been traveling ALOT lately--and sis not know much about CINY--but i am pumped now--thanks

thats awesome, I just went to Newport on the Levy and had a blast and never even knew the place exsisted. They also have a brand new place called the Contemporary Arts Center and they have got a lot of cool stuff if you like modern art. If you ever need any help in cincy, mail me maybe there'll be a huge party of something I can hook you up with, or maybe we could simply meetup at starbucks for some tea (Im under age still). Nevertheless there is a ton of stuff to see and do so have fun! B)

I ran across this website, and started reading the message board. I'm from Cincinnati as well. Great review of the city, CincyLSD. I think it might make the place seem a little more exciting than it is. It could also be that I'm a slightly jaded lifetime resident that looks forward to every opportunity I get to get out of this town. Honestly though, there are some really great people and places in the city. I wanted to add a few to the review posted above.

The Southgate House
This is my favorite music venue in the city. The building was built in 1812, and has a great amount of history. The venue features the best in local bands, and a very good offering of national bands as well. Bands that have done shows over the past few years there include The White Stripes, The Strokes, The Datsuns, Modest Mouse, and many more. Most of the local shows are 21+, national shows are typically 18+. It's not uncommon to find great lineups of 15+ local bands for around $6. It's located right across from downtown Cincinnati, on the other side of the Ohio River. City bus routes will drop you off right at the front door. It is located directly across the street from Newport On The Levee (mentioned above).

The Comet
This is one of the hippest bars the city has to offer. The crowd can generally be described as eclectic. The bar offers over 100 beers for your drinking pleasure. The jukebox is one of the best in the city, featuring everything from local music, to obscure indie albums, to the best in local acts. Their kitchen is open late, and serves up some of the best burritos I've had. There is generally live music on the weekends. Sundays feature the aptly named Comet Bluegrass Allstars. For those that have a taste for bluegrass, this band is one of the best around. Featured local artists adorn the walls. Definately worth a visit. I've never had a bad time there. It's located in Northside, about 10 minutes from downtown and the University Of Cincinnati.

There are several coffee houses of note in town. Highland Coffee House is located on the corner of University of Highland. It was once my old stomping grounds. The Highland features a crowd generally made up of students from nearby universities, Cincinnati and Xavier. They have a nice deck for the warmer months. Kaldi's Coffeehouse is another nice place to meet friends for a cup of joe. It has a nice eclectic menu, walls covered with used books, and a nice atmosphere. Be forewarned, the service can be slow to say the least. It's located on Main St. in a neighborhood called Over The Rhine. This stretch of Main St. is one of the busiest entertainment districts in town. There are nearby bars and dance clubs galore. The direct area where the clubs and bars are located is pretty safe, but don't stray more than a block.......this can be one of the most dangerous parts of town.

Right On! I'm from Northern Kentucky ...in Florence about 10 mins away from Cinci.....I have been to the Southgate House and it is a kewl lil place! ...some other places worth checking out for live music (and just drinking) are Bogarts, Mad Frog (a personal fav.) , and TopCats ....and Buzz is a kewl lil coffee shop :) (conviently located by UC's campus) and everything else is covered and in my area (NKY) in Covington is York Street Cafe and The Madison ..Lots of kewl live music venues around here...

I'm a southern Ohio native and a frequent traveler to Cincy... there's a bar over by the university (of Cincy)... something about a frog or a gator... I don't know. Anyway, that's a good time.

And there is this place called Izzy's... it's a deli/restaurant... they do carryout and eat in. It's this quaint little Jewish place and the food is awesome. Check it out before a reds game or something! :)
