Default Help me understand this...

You may have seen I am after ideas to represent my american backpacking trip as a tattoo. Was suggested a star for each of teh cities I visited. I love the idea but dont want stars so have been racking my brains so think what could replace the stars.
Now I like the idea of the below sign, But I need to clarify a few things before I start to play about with it.

is this shape sign just for route 66 or is it common across all of america as a kind of 'state' road sign. Because I have seen some with a city where it says 'route'.

basically we didnt do the route 66 route - we travelled VIA amtrak- but I kinda like the road sign style with maybe the nmain cities we visited in each (woudl be about 7)
I hope I made any sort of sense - at all ...I have be doing my nut in trying to find something which would be cool.

Thoughts?

That sign is used for the U.S. Highway System (not the same thing as Interstate Highway System, which has the blue signs of a slightly different shape).

Yeah, I wouldn't go with the route 66 sign either. Its a bit overused.... Thats a tough one to decide. Keep us posted, and if anything hits my brain I will let you know. State flags came to mind, but some of them would be tough to do in small tats...

Same reason why I dont want stars although it's a good idea small and does the trick and a star to represent each place is like teh america flag without it looking like ive stamped the american flag on me.
But so many people have stars -

Hmm let me know if you come up with anything.
WIll keep you posted :D

xx

Dunno exactly where you went, but I-80 goes from San Francisco to New York, and hasn't got the Americana baggage of Route 66.

Slightly different shape:

I was out on the east coast, and thought it was pretty cool to see the familiar I80 signs all the way over there. Reminded me of home!
