Default Visting LA

Hey Guys- I'm from NY and I'm going to LA for three days in May. I've never stayed in hostels in the US and I was wondering what they are like (I haven't heard good things) I've been in hostels all over other countries though. Should I just pay for a cheap motel or do a hostel- any hostel suggestions? Any backpacker tips would be appreciated- thanks!!

For starters you can check out the Travel Punk hostel page to get an idea of prices and locations in the area. The link is at the top of the page.

I would recommend staying in a hostel because it is much easier to meet other people to hang out with, it really depends what your travelling there for though.

Good Luck!

I was just in California, but unfortunately I didn't stay in a hostel in LA. I did stay in one for two nights in Santa Barbara, and it was an amazing experience - I met so many cool people in the 3 days that I was there!

The hostel that I was looking at in LA was the Orbit Hostel in Hollywood for about 20 bucks a night...not sure if that's the locale you're looking for or if you want something more beachy, and since I never actually stayed there I can't tell you if it's good.

Stay at the HI Hostel in Santa Monica. It's clean...kind of like a very large prison...lol. I've stayed there twice. It gets the job done and it's close to 3rd Street Promenade and the beach and the pier. It's a good choice.
