NYC Pubs

Will be in New York March 21-25 and was wondering if any locals new of some good areas or pubs to havea drink at. I've been to New York before for about 2 weeks so I know my way around Manhattan a little but I thought I'd check with anyone would knows about any hidden spots worth checking out.

Appreciate it.
Cheers.

One I've frequented several times is Faces & Names. They've got a nice area in the back with a cozy fireplace. It's at 161 W. 54th St, between Sixth & Seventh. It's rated 8.9 on Citysearch, with 10 "Recommended" or "Highly Recommended" reviews out of 11. There's really no such thing as a "cheap" bar in Manhattan (you can sometimes find drink specials in Brooklyn, etc, but not Manhattan), so the beers are $5+ but that's pretty typical.
Overall, it's currently my "go-to" place when I'm meeting friends in the city.

Cheers!

Interesting that you mentioned Faces & Names. I've hung out there a couple of times. It's a nice place, but pricey (like anything in Manhattan) if I remember correctly. I seem to remember that they had Yuengling on tap for $4 or maybe $5. Be sure to do a lot of your drinking during happy hour if possible. If my memory serves me right, St. Andrews on W 44th was a nice place. I don't have a ton of experience with Manhattan bars. If any others come to mind, I'll let you know. Hope you have a great trip.

Are you planning on spending time in Brooklyn? Like Matthew said, drinking is a lot more affordable there.

Scruffy Duffy's on 8th Ave, somewhere between 46th and 48th. Best wings in the city! great beers on tap. basically an awesome time.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

Believe it or not NYCHousegirl I couldn't find any good hostels in the coolest borough in the universe, so i did get a hostel in Manhattan. Im going to be staying at the Big Apple Hostel...it's just a few blocks east of time square. I stayed in Chelsea a few years ago, I thought it was an o.k. area.......there is some pretty creepy fella wearing leather shorts during the late hours of the night but i guess a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do?

Peace.
