International Drivers License Acceptance

Is an international drivers license enough to get into most clubs and casinos? While I have all kinds of ID, my brother only has his international drivers license and I'd like to know whether this will suffice in getting into drinking/gambling establishments. Funny enough he's 20 and it says hes a year older but its been obtained through the proper channels.

I *think* it might be enough... surely one of the members who is from the US will have a deffinite answer... but in the US they use their driver's lisence a lot fot ID.

Most places will NOT allow you to drink with only an international DL. In the U.S. the only legal forms of ID for drinking purposes are U.S. driver's licenses, U.S. military IDs and passports. If your bro's passport says he is 20, you might have a tough time. You can try bluffing your way through it with the IDL, depending on the establishment, but most places will only accept a passport. I know its not going to get you into most clubs and bars here (perth, australia). They only accept Aus drivers license, passports and proof of age cards

I figured a bit of bluffing might be necessary. But surely an IDL is better than nothing at all, especially in smaller establishments. Either that or he is going to have go grow a beard :D

Unfortunately most places are fairly strict, even small ones. In general underage drinking is taken very serious in the states. If a bar or store gets caught selling liquor to a minor, they lose their liquor license for a period of time plus a nasty fine. Its just not worth it to them to do it and so they generally ID anyone who looks under 30.

Your best bet might be to go to pubs that do not ID people at the door. Just keep a low profile and you can buy your bro drinks at the bar while he sits at a back table somewhere. Good luck!
