Hey, welcome to the threads and all that good stuff. Anyways good to hear your headed to New York for a good time. I'm actually going there with a friend next month for my second time.
We booked into the Big Apple Hostel for a week but might switch as we're probably going to go to Boston for a day. The reveiws for the hostel were really good even though I've heard it's not the most exciting place..... but I'll let you know more when I get back.
A few years back I was travelling through New York with a ton of backpackers and we stayed at the Chelsea International Hostel. This was my first experience with hostels so like most I was kinda surprised at the sparse nature of the rooms ( very simple steel bunk beds, communal bathrooms). I actually wanted to stay there again though but it was all booked up in March. The good thing about this hostel was there was a really good mood and lots of people there were interested in partying etc...so that was nice.
Both these Hostels are in good locations..Chelsea in pretty much in the heart of manhattan and the Big Apple hostel is right at times square. Hostelworld.com has a pretty good listing of other places to check out too.
Good luck.
