Oaky, really pulling out the stops now got to get some things kinda finalized.
Please let me know you thoughts on weather you think these are good deals none are booked yet.

Flight

From: - Heathrow, London
To: - Tampa, Florida
Stops: - 1 stop at JFK

[u]Airline:[/] - Virgin Atlantic
Price:612.17 per person

We have flown with Virgin before and was happy with it so chose this one.
I thought the price wasn't that bad but please let me know you thoughts - We don't mind about the stop over or anything so thats fine by us

GREYHOUND

1201 - 1600 miles is $84.00 each one way This is their 'go anywhere fares' We would use this from Florida to Massachusetts - Seems a hell of a lot cheaper than amtrack.
Please tell me your thoughts on greyhounds as Not too sure on this.
Also for greyhounds once you are on the bus apart from the rest stops they have are you able to get off at a stop and stary for a day or so and catch the next greyhound or do they not stop in places you are likly to be able to want to stay? - Just curious about the whole thing

And from NY to Buffalo (niagra falls) is $45 one way or $90 return on greyhound

the return is from Boston intl airport direct back to heathrow london

We are also now thinking of renting a car - what do you think to this?

Ive been reading alot of poor reviews on grey hound esp on long journeys

Hey, you can fly with British Airways from Gatwick to Tampa and then Boston returning to Heathrow. That costs £479 inclusive of taxes. And also, this flight doesn't have a stopover, so you don't have to faff around changing flights.

I wasn't entirely sure which dates to put in, but I vaguely remember you saying August (or September, maybe?) for 80 days, so I did end of August til mid-November.

Seems very reasonable to me!

Greyhound can be....blah..but it gets you there cheaply, so it works. Those prices look pretty decent.

xanthuos 05-29-2006 01:45 PM

That $84 fare on Greyhound will NOT be available from everywhere. Make sure you check out the website and do an example reservation.

Also, Amtrak is not that much more expensive. I priced Orlando to New York for $104 on Amtrak, only $20 more than that same trip would cost on Greyhound...Orlando to Boston is only $112. Believe me that Amtrak will be more comfortable. With the discount code H570, to go from Miami to Boston on Amtrak is $84, same as Greyhound.

xanthuos 05-29-2006 02:10 PM

Oh, to add another discount code...I think you mentioned something about traveling with your boyfriend - well, H568 is a Buy One, Get One Free code for companion travel. Miami to Boston on the August date I looked at is $112 for TWO people with that code.

oh wow thanks ,
which boston station where you putting in?
we were looking at the passes you see but werent too sure of them, maybe just as well to get seperate ticketsd when needed instead of a pass

lauren - The exact dates aren't sorted yet, we want to leave sometime august early-mid august and are there for about 80 days which would take us into october some time i think. Although am quite willing to put off until september just so I can see was haloween in USA is like. hehe.

Thank you so much for your input so far guys highyl appreciated

For amtrack i am assueming as for most things mid week is cheaper and better option what about times of day? is late at night better - we are kinda nocternal so being awake for a ridiculous time of night is no probs hehe

cheers keep it coming guys

Actually, on the east coast, some of the intercity fares on Amtrak can be more expensive during the week, because some people actually understand the concept of taking a train for business travel. You may have more difficulty getting seats on a cheaper fare for some intercity trips, especially the Acela (I think that's what it's called - it's been a few years since I looked into it) express trains. Weekend travel might be a better deal - but at www.amtrak.com you can get the fare info.
