It really depends on what you are traveling for. Cause Spain's regions are very diverse.

my original plan was to head from madrid to valancia, to seville, and then back to madrid. However, i'm now thinking i can fit more into 12 days. I may try to stop in portugal and maybe cruise to the north of sapin (santiago, basque country, etc.) possibly even stoping in barcelona on the way back to madrid. that may be a bit much, but i think i can fit more than three cities in 12 days.
Who knows, maybe i'll end up getting drunk for 12 days straight in the hostel bar.
there is only one way to find out.
Nevertheless, after seeing the topless beach photos i think i'll at least make it to the shore.

Do not miss Barcelona if you can at all help it! It's absolutely wonderful. Seriously. You can see some pics of it here. I also have Valencia pictures here. Have a great trip!

Cold. Very cold in the winter. It lightly snowed in the month of January when I was there a couple of years back, but not a lot nor enough to to stick on the ground.
Winter jacket and scarf was definitely appropriate though.
Go in the spring or summer time to get the full Spanish effect .
