I tried to post last night but it got erased. I have never traveled alone before and I need some suggestions on a safe place to travel for two weeks. I am 24/female from the US. I have a budget of $2000. I have been to Argentina with friends. (I brought a suitcase because I hadn't heard of 'backpacking' before.) I want to go somewhere amazing, and culture shock is not an issue, but I am on a teacher's budget. Help??

Though it was some years ago now, I did my first solo travel in Eastern Europe as a 23 year old woman - not a teacher, though! - and found the most important thing was to seem confident when I was not, and to apply the same basic rules about safety that I would at home. Walk with your head high, dress as much like the locals as you can and avoid dark alleys. You'll be fine and have a ball. I met more people - both locals and fellow wanderers - being on my own, than did the pairs of girls I occasionally met in hostels. I read in another forum that you're going to Peru, that's awesome. I haven't been to South America so don't have specific tips, but you have been to the region before, so take what you learned from that trip, and apply it to this one. You'll be fine and have a great time.

Enjoy!

As far as I'm concerned, traveling solo is THE way to go. I just make friends to hang out with and go exploring in each new city/country, so it's like having a core group to do stuff with, but you never get sick of them :)

ditto what Omi said

This way you're forced to meet more people. Lets face it, you can only be good company to yourself for so long.

My first time to Europe I also went alone and LOVED it!!! I made friends when i wanted to be around other people and when i got tired of them i went my own way!! You can do what you want when you want!!
People think O-man your going alone are you crazy, but it really is not that hard or scary just keep your eyes open and you will be fine!
On a side note I should be in Ireland in Killarney In June and I hope through Oct. If you want to get together?
also with TP behind you, you are never alone there is always a TP member close by!! I would have been a little more scared if I did not have my secound family here!!
