Travelling to Thailand Alone....HELP!!!

Hi there!

I am thinking about travelling alone to Thailand. I am thinking about going for about 3 months or so...perhaps longer depending.
I have never travelled alone before but I am totally up for it. It will be MY spiritual journey.
I am thinking that I could possibly get a job somewheres.. maybe in a bar or something. But I really have no idea how much money I will need. I will be staying in dorm rooms and doing everything on a "budget".
Do you think I should be concerned for my safety, being a 20 year old female from Canada? I know all about the sickos in Europe, but have never been to Asia, so I'm not sure if its the same thing. I guess as long as I don't really wander by myself too much at night and stay away from shady looking guys then I should be fine right?...Well, hopefully!
Anyways, if anyone has any info on Thailand, or money matters and stuff like that, any info would be greatly appreciated.

i loved thailand ( heh ended up going 3 times this year!)

dont know about working there tho. i imagine the pay is pretty average....as the dollar isnt the greatest....

a friend of mine went there for a month, and spent the whole time in the south of thailand, she lived on AUD$500 the whole time. but she also mentioned she lost a hell of a lot of weight from a poor diet, but had a wicked time! i think she went by herself too, and just met up with random people to hang out with and live with to make it cheaper.

It will be extremely hard to get work in a bar as a foreigner. Preference will always be given to locals. Plus, the average pay per day for a bar worker is around 150 baht, plus tips. 150 baht = $3.75 roughly. (40baht/U.S. dollar). Not sure it is worth it, even if you could find work, which I think is unlikely. About the only work available for foreigners in Thailand is English Teaching (and there are many websites around about this if you have an interest) and maybe SCUBA instructing. Thailand is a great place to visit, though and being alone is fine. Tons of people travel alone there and you will have no problem meeting people to hang with. Just watch out for the jellyfish...I got a nasty sting on my last trip!!

and in the less touristic areas - i've heard of student salaries as low as 80 baht a day!

Okay, so maybe not working in a bar. Maybe that wouldn't be a good idea! Thanks guys for making me see that before I'm actually there.
I was hoping anyone might have some more info for me. Maybe on like stuff to see and do. I have heard from friends of different things to do, but its always nice to get someones else view as well.
Also, if anyone has any idea on how $ i should bring. Again, I am thinking about going for about 3 months, perhaps longer.

Dont worry about thailand ust make sure you know the customs and what not before you go, there really arnt that many but its good too ame sure. im gonna be there in one week for 3 motnhs and im gonna be solo for most of that too, apperently the people are super hospitalble and nice, just watch for the scams, good rule of thumb if its too good too be true then its proabbly a scam. just grab a lonely planet or sometihng and oyu should be fine. Also as far as money goes, you should easily be able to live off 500 a month, you can live of 20 a day like a king. the expensise come with moving, so remeber too haggle for evverything.will

I hope, not too late for the answer. I am strongly recommened not to work in the bar or some place like that. You need the work permit for the income, that 's mean tourist cann't get any job. Not include volunteer. If you like to do some job you can do as a volunteer.
So you can get the place or food. Anyway, if this is the fist time you go abroad. I suggest you to get company. If you don't have yet. Most hostels in thailand do not have dorms. You can get your own room for 5 dollars!

i would get the whole hep-a series as well as typhoid and tetanus.
