Sept 10, 2 more days, sept.12 till i go to italy and i still dont know wat i want to do. I have two weeks of independent travel and i was thinking of going from rome all the way up to florence, cinque terre, venice and then either from there to switzerland or to Spain or to prague. But is switzerland worth it? I read that it is a very expensive place to go and i have a budget of about $2000. Spain looks awsome but i have to consider airfare and amount of travel on the plane. Prague looks cool but I am scared of all the scams....

I guess Switzerland is worth it if you like nice Alpine views... otherwise there really isnt much to see (that you cant find in Austria or in Germany) Sure, it's a gorgeous country... but the other places that you mentioned seemed a lot more exciting.

Hope that helped!!

Never been to Switzerland myself, but Spain is Awsome!! Also, i seriously doubt that Prague would be any worse than anywhere else as far as tourist scams go, and even if it is just be slightly sensible and you'll be fine. Seriously, i don't think Prague would be bad at all, it's a tourist hot spot right now.

I'd go as far as budget flights would let me... Switzerland and Spain are relatively close, and while Prague is cheap, it's probably the furthest out (unless you're looking at Southern Spain).

Scamming and thievery are as common in Italy and Spain as they are in Prague. If anything, Barcelona's probably the world capital of pickpocketing and petty thievery scams. Any place with lots of tourists is going to have its pitfalls that way, so you shouldn't let that deter you from going anywhere.

Either way, I wouldn't count any of those destinations out. What are you most interested in on your time off? If it's more nice weather, funky architecture, and a dynamic vibe, Barcelona's a good call. It's also relatively inexpensive. If you're into scenery, action sports and good chocolate, get thee to Switzerland. And if you want a complete change of pace, excellent beer, and surprisingly colorful scenery, Prague is great.

Take a look at a site like WhichBudget.com to see what airfares are like from/to the cities you're interested in... Or you could just rail it to Switzerland. I think whichever you choose, you'll be pretty happy.

Switzerland is definitely worth it, especially if you are coming from Italy. I took a similar route to you two years - Rome, Naples, Venice and then up to Switzerland. The two regions (mediterranean and Alpine) are exact opposites in nearly every way and you will really appreciate the contrast between the two after being in Italy for a while. Of course, Switzerland is spectacular in its own right with its beautiful scenery and many outdoor activities. I love the food as well.

If you're in the area swing by Germany. Spain is cool too.

Yeah it's totally worth it! It's gorgeous, the food is amazing and if you look into the country a bit, you'll find that the Swiss are weird people.

I just posted some pics from Lucerne on my blog. Check them out: http://rae-does-contiki.blogspot.com/
