Default flight question...

when everyone does multiple country visits is it generally more expensive to fly into one airport and go home from another? I'm considering an additional trip this coming summer besides seeing moscow... I get a lot lot lot of leave in june/july and then I move home 30 days before school starts in september, so I was thinking of trying to get in some time in germany, netherlands, and poland... I've only ever done single country trips, so I am unfamiliar with how multiple country visits work. it's sort of an inconvenience to fly into germany, see the other 2 countries, and come back to germany tofly home. so just wondering how everyone has done that in the past, I guess I never really thought about it before.

this whole thing is fueled by the free time and the desire to see these places, especially see krakow and go to the holocaust sites (something I've wanted to do for a long time), but I'm not going to lie... celine dion is going on her world tour starting in february and will be going to south africa, france, belgium, germany, switzerland and a few other places I think... and I wanna go.

don't hate!

When we do Europe, we always fly in and out of one city, and travel as far away as we want. With the amazing low cost airlines in EU now, catching a flight back to your starting point is sooooo cheap. Or that has been my experience. On our last trip, we started in Holland, finnished in Greece, and caught a cheap flight back to A-dam. Its truly amazing how a flight can be cheaper than a train ticket. Especially in Northern EU.

I've only flown out of the same place, but if you can find something that doesn't cost too much more, it's probably worth it. I don't think it's worth the wasted time and hassle of going back to your starting point unless you planned on going back anyway.

It depends on the airline and the situation. I know sometimes it is not a big deal if you fly out of the same region Europe would be a region, Asia would be a region (i.e. Boston to Germany, Paris to Boston). I think unfortunately you will have to scout tickets and see what you can find but have hope because you should be able to find something.

^I think that is pretty much right. I did a quick search to see how close the prices were for flying roundtrip between Tampa and Barcelona, Tampa and Rome and then a Tampa-Barcelona Rome-Tampa. In order they were 731, 985, and 950. For the difference of 120 bucks you'd be hard pressed to get a roundtrip ticket that would save you any sizable amount of money. Convenience, imo, wins out.

Your mileage may vary...

Yeah, it's all just luck of the roll... I have priced out flying to London and back from Amsterdam or Madrid and then flying back form London, and sometimes it's similar prices, sometimes it's a bit more. I guess depends on how busy of a season it is.

thanks guys! I didn't want any "wasted time" backtracking but I guess in the end, none of it is really "wasted time".

ps, I was looking for tickets from columbus to frankfurt germany for june and I found tickets with lufthuania or how ever the hell you spell it, for 595 bucks! I saw that on kayak.com

can't I catch a cheap flight in europe with ryan air? shouldn't be too hard to get back to frankfurt. I could have my cake and eat it too!!! travel AND see celine! oh hark! :D

From Frankfurt, you can fly just about anywhere. It is a hub for Ryan Air.

oh my god I just did a crazy thing. fanclub pre-sale tickets went on sale an hour ago and I went online to check out the seating at her different shows in germany (cos those are the only shows that are during my leave in june...) and I saw she was playing in frankfurt, cologne, stuttgart, munich, and berlin. I checked out frankfurt first, since that's where the cheap plane tickets are to. I got row 9. this was unaaceptable, so I tried one of the places I'd never heard of... stuttgart... the seating I got was ROW 1, SEAT 18, so that's FRONT AND CENTER! my heart raced, and I just fucking bought it. oh my god. I just bought a ticket to the concert of my life in germany, and I only pondered the idea of making an extra trip this summer YESTERDAY.

oh my god. this is wild. this is crazy!

but I guess I'm going to GERMANY!!

I am in disbelief that I just bought the freaking ticket without any plans or anything. Well at least the rail stops there. God I better start on my teach myself German CDs.

I called my mom and she laughed at me for five minutes and then told me she had to go call my stepdad. haha

that's so great that you got the ticket you wanted!! I ended up making a side trip to Hamburg because dirty dancing was playing there, and the thought of seeing that in German was just too good to pass up... but then I arrange most of my travels around concerts and shows. so yay for you!

Congrat's, you'll have a great time!

As for the fly in/out question . . . I got a ticket from Frankfurt to Bangkok, and out from Delhi to Frankfurt, for $12 cheaper than my (ex)girlfriend paid for a round trip to Bangkok. I think it really just depends on the airline.

Stuttgart's cool! And while you're in Deutschland, go up to Wiesbaden and stroll around my old stomping grounds, damn I miss that place. Let me know where else you're going in Germany, I know that place like the back of my hand, minus that mole, and that blotch there, and uhhh . . . you get the point.

HEY! don't hate me cos you ain't me!

I decided to give myself a night to sleep on it and let the excitement die down (as if that's possible, I mean seriously!), but now I've had time to think, I and I suppose I'm going to go out there are stay 2 weeks(ish)... I want to see A-dam, a few spots in Germany, and I want to go to Krakow and see the Auschwitz-Birkenau site... and because I've never been, I might go see Paris for a few days. It's going to be kind of an "on the go" trip but shit, it'll be fun times! wow. so spur of the moment. and I leanred I can't sell the ticket on ebay so I have to go or else I am out for an undisclosed amount of money ... if you've wanted to do something but have been hesitant to do it, shit this it the best way to make yourself take the plunge! hahahah
