I am going to Europe on June 20th for a three month adventure and I want to save on the airfare. I will travel within the United States anywhere that would get me a cheap flight as well as fly to anywhere to get it and then use my rail pass to continue on my journey. Where are the best places.
this is an emergency post....i have to book soon.
Peace,
Josh Sparkz

East coast is usually cheapest (JFK, Newark, La Guardia, etc). It's pretty cheap to fly out of Chicago too. Flying in - London (east coast to London = uber cheap). I know you can't use your pass there, but you can find a super cheap flight ala Easyjet or Ryanair to just about anywhere. Otherwise, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Dublin are other cheap places.

When i was booking my flight last year i found cheaper flights for JFK. It might depend on the airline, i was flying Delta Skymiles and put us on a Virgin Atlantic plane. O so nce to be greeted by a hot blonde with an English accent and then be offered a beer. It was qucik change from 18/not legal to drink and 18/legal to drink.

maybe i'm a little biased...but boston has some great deals too.
aer lingus, air france, icelandair, lufthansa, alitalia, ba, finnair, klm, swiss and virgin all fly to their respective cities as well as all the major american ones.
icelandair in particular has great deals to europe. also i would check out the major hubs like atlanta, chicago, philly and newark.

I didn't leave ya out - just couldn't think of all the east coast hubs. Iceland Air is great. So's Aer Lingus.

Occasionally SAS has very cheap fares from their hubs, which include Seattle for the west coasters out there, but you have to check the website frequently, because they're unpredictable.
Where do you live, because by the time you factor in your travel expenses to the cheap US hub, you may spend more than a fare from closer to home.

I always get good deals from here in Atlanta. BA and Delta both fly from here to the EU all the time. London is usually cheapest to fly to then you can catch ryanair to anywhere just about from there...

It really depends on where your going in the US.. From experience i wouldnt go for big city airports...try an airport in a town nearby from wherever your planning on going.

Newark, NJ to Shannon, IRE is very very cheap.
then you could possibly hop on a cheap flight towards continental europe, or start your journey in Ireland.
check Kayak
or
Sidestep
they have really sweet airfares
