hey all-

in planning my may trip to the uk i came across a website for the "megabus company" offering really cheap bus fares from london to glasgow (and several other cities). I'm wondring if anyone has used this service and if it is any good. my first impression was that this bus line was too good to be true so if anyone knows anything about Megabus, please let me know.

i have travelled with them a couple of times the worst experience i had with them was when i sat next to the heater on the hotest day and the air conditioning had stopped working half way through the 3 hour journey man i thought i was going to pass out!

Please check out a few of the regional airlines such as easyjet and bmi baby as you may be able to get a cheap deal with them

i checked out ryanair and found some pretty good deals but i think between trainfare to stansted or luton, the actual airfare then whatever the busfare/trainfare will be to the city center, the bus is still a better deal. plus i kind of want to be able to look out at the countryside along the ride. am i crazy for doing this? is it even a scenic drive to scotland or is it all along an anonymous motorway with generic views? (in which case flying might be worth it)

personally i havent gone from london to scotland by mega bus...and probably never will but we do have a lot of motorways on the way!

If you start out your trip in Scotland by going to Edinburgh, I recommend National Express' funfares. I took them to visit beergal1 in Liverpool and it was a very nice ride with no problems.

They only go to Edinburgh as they are primarily for travel within England...but this way, the longest part of your journey will be the most comfortable and hassle free. From there, I suppose you can take MegaBus within Scotland to other cities. Shorter trips offer less chance of a problem.

Me and my sister picked up a return fare from London to Glasgow for 16 pounds. It was an awesome price. I do have to admit the ride is not the most comfortable. It was long and indeed alittle on the hot side. Usually pretty packed too and it took along time to get everything unloaded when we were done.

But I dunno, if the pick the fare up for a buck or two and don't mind it, it's not a bad deal. I'd use it again for a shorter trip.

You might actually find that its cheaper or the same price to fly. We looked into this and got flights MUCH cheaper!

National Express coaches are very nice, comfortable, and have decent air conditioning/heaters, so try and find a cheap fare with them first. Megabus are cheap in every sense, so it all depends how much you need to keep costs down and how much comfort matters to you.

id only take megabus as a last resort. Ive endured it for 300 odd miles from Aberdeen to Manchester before and it isnt alot of fun. National express is much the same. take a look at trains, with virgin if you book it in advance you can travel across country for not much more than megabus.

National express go allover the uk, and do go further north than Edinburgh to Inverness and Aberdeen.

If you play about with it enough you can get it for those prices. Depending on how long you book in advance that could well be cheaper than mega bus. Even if its slightly more trust me it will be worth it. You'll also get a better view of the scenary on the train compared to the bus.

I just took a bus 2 days ago from London to Glasgow. It was only one quid on National Express which is nicer than megabus. You have to book 3 weeks in advance to get that fare though...I think. I took the bus over night and got here in the morning, slept the whole way, not bad.
