Hey there,

Two friends and I will be spending the next semester studying in Scotland, we are leavi8ng in about a month, and we got some airline ticket prices from the international affairs office at our school, but the rates seem really high. Does anyone know of a good cheap airline ticket provider online that has student discounts?

Thanks
~Ellen

There are tons of ticket consolidators online. You could try mobissimo, that one searches other sites for the least expensive fare; also give STA Travel a try and also Student Universe for their "student rates". Whether or not those rates end up being any less than what would be otherwise available is debateable. There are other sites like economy travel, cheap tickets, orbitz and countless others to begin your search with. Good luck!!

Travelocity. Use the Flexible flights option. If you check it often, its surprising what you might find. Seriously.

I have found STA travel to be really helpful, but the best idea is to do some research and just see what u can find. I found it very easy to bargin travel agents down and get a pretty good deal, all u need is a bit of an idea of how far you can push their prices down.

Actually, with the rise of the internet as a way to sell airline tickets, the airlines themselves aren't a bad place. Check the websites of the "majors" that fly where you want to (if you're not sure, check oag.com). Sign up for their weekly (or whatever) E-mail Newsletter. It sends you an update of their sale prices, and some of them are VERY good.

I was telling SD about how I'm on American Airlines e-mail list, and I've seen some good deals to Belize for her. For Scotland, I highly recommend getting on Virgin Atlantic's list -- and for that matter -- just checking their website for advertised specials, now and then. Last year, about this time, I got a $99 each way to London.

Thank you all for the info. I have looked at STA and they seem to have the best prices so far. About $450 per person round trip. This is the first time i have traveled outside the country and the first time I have ever bought a plain ticket. Am i getting ripped off or is this the kind of price i can expect?
