A little bit of help for the newbie here
Planning to purchase "TransItalia", i think that is what they are called passes worth 10 days travel for jan 2005 to travel around Italy.
Read somewhere you have to be VERY careful what trains you get, not the expresses or eurostar etc as they will charge you a whopping great big extra fee.
As this pass IS our budgetted travel money, rather concerned that i get on the right trains as my partner and I travel up from Sicily ever northwards.
Can anyone explain the system to me, what trains to get and what to avoid?
I've looked at the Italian rail website, heck I've even dropped portions of it into an online translation program and I STILL get confused.
The annoying thing is, i used to work for British Rail (way back when I was a brit cit) and timetabling was my "thnag". But, pardon me, what a bloody cockeyed system!
Anyone give me a hand???
