[font=Impact][color=purple]Hi, I'm new here. I read your postings on Airhitch and decided to do some reading into it, especially since my hubby and I are planning a very low budget trip to Europe.

Anyhow, from everything I read up on them, they are legit. Apparently, they started in the 60's - a very liberal, free thinking group of people who wanted to travel but weren't upper class. The website kind of conveys the way they operate and I think it's supposed to be maintained as something for more liberal free spirited people, which is why they have no problem being rude in emails and having a simple website. They only want people who "get it" to do it.

Anyhow, I read a lot of different articles on them, and I'm not sure if I read it correctly, but I think the Frommors (sp?) guy had to do with the beginning. Also, if you do a search, you can find lots of magazine/newspaper articles on them, web articles, personal stories, where they've been featured, etc. Most sites not affiliated with them. They've been featured in a lot of magazines, from beauty to travel.

Also, since they use Verisign, you can pretty much trust you won't get ripped off - since they have to go through a credit card processing company, they have to get checked and when using something such as Verisign, it's nearly impossible for people to take your money and run.

So, I think you should go for it - about 250 for a one way isn't bad. Make sure to read over their website carefully. They have a lot of info on it. If you do go for it, keep us posted on how it turns out. Apparently their CS can be kind of rude, but it gets you where you want to go.

oh, and to add, they check out with the BBB - they have no billing complaints. Mostly refund practices, which is completely outlined on their website. They are listed under three different names - Airhitch (the most popular), Whole Earth Travel, and Sun Hitch (for flying to Mexico):

<Based on BBB files, this company has a satisfactory record with the Bureau. To have a "satisfactory record" a company must be in business for at least 12 months, and properly address complaints referred by the Bureau. The company cannot have an unusual volume of complaints, or any government actions involving its marketplace conduct. The Bureau must understand and have no concerns about the company's products, services and type of business.>

Just to put your mind at ease

Hey Jamiepeaski,
You rock- I really appreciate your post. Their response to my email was a little *sketchy* I thought, but afterwards I also did some research on Frommer's, and some other sites and decided, WHAT THE HELL! I'm going to do it, cause ya know what, I love adventures and I dont have any money- well, I have some money but I want to use it for school, not for plane tickets.
The thing that I was really worried about was that they would rip me off, and your email helped me to stop worrying about that, thank you. Of course, if something bad does happen....I will take it as a lesson learned and an adventure which is really what life is all about.
I will keep you updated on how it goes. I should be trying sometime between June 20th and July 1st =)

No problem. That's cool you're going to go for it! My hubby and I decided this is probably what we'll do (unless we find prices lower, conventionally - ha ha). It'd be great to get to talk to someone personally about this whole "process" Enjoy the rest of your vaca!
