Hi camikay, unfortunately I haven't heard much about Airhitch but I'll do some digging around and see if I can come up with anything. Welcome to the boards!

Thanks for replying-
so I wrote airhitch an email, asking a question, and they freaked out and told me my mentality was not correct for airhitching or something like that. I thought I was looking for a flight, not joining a cult...!!!!
Anyways, here is the message cause I think its kinda funny, but its long so skip it if you dont have time!

Dear Cami,

At 09:18 AM 5/27/2004, you wrote:

>Hello,
>I want to get from Western Europe to the West Coast of the states in
late
>June. I am currently in Italy, but I would like to book a Ryanair
flight
>to whichever city in Europe would be the most likely to get me back to
the
>states.

Why only RyanAir? By this mindset, you are LIMITING YOUR OPTIONS; but
the
wise Airhitcher EXPANDS his/her options to the max.

>I need to book this flight soon,...

What makes you think this? (You are wrong: you do NOT need to book this
flight soon. You possibly don't need to book ANY flight, EVER. Trust
our 35
composite years [and HUNDREDS of years if you "lay us end-to-end"] of
experience doing this, when we tell you this.) If you don't KNOW what
makes
you think it, we have a suggestion for a reason; and we can also tell
you
why WE think the opposite. Let us know.

>so can you tell me which city/airport in Europe is the most likely to
have
>seats back to the states in late June, early July?

No...we can't tell you that. But you don't need to know it, either. It
doesn't matter, at this point, if what you want to do is MINIMIZE YOUR
TOTAL COST and NOT LOCK YOURSELF INTO COMMITMENTS which will be
potentially
costly to break, should you need to break them, for your Atlantic
crossing.

>If all cities are equally likely to get me back to the states during
this
>time period, thanks for reading this and sorry for taking your time.

All cities are NOT equally likely (or rather, NO city can get you back
to
the States, only an airplane can do that!); but, at this point, NONE OF
THIS MATTERS. Trust our 35 composite years (and HUNDREDS of years if
you
"lay us end-to-end"!) of experience doing this when we tell you you are
MISFOCUSSED.

>If there are 5 top pick cities, pls. let me know so I can get a
ticket!

You don't need to get a ticket -- at least certainly not at this point,
and
probably never. This stuff all just "takes care of itself" as you go
thru the
Airhitching process.

>And if it helps, my preferred final destination would be San Fransisco
or
>Sacramento, or possibly San Diego.

Having a preference always helps, but doesn't necessarily influence
outcome.

>I really appreciate the possibility of getting cheap tix, thanks,

Except that, you have thoroughly misunderstood our entire system if you
think it's going to get you "cheap tix". That's not what it's about. If
you
want "cheap tix" we suggest you go to sites like "cheaptix.com", if
there
is such a site, or if not, then sites with similar names like
"cheaptickets.com" or "cheapfares.com" or "lowfares.com". But of course
if
you do you will find that NONE of those sites really gives you "cheap"
tix,
because THERE IS NO SUCH THING. Tickets always make flying MORE
expensive,
not less...that's why they're THERE. And that's why we AIRHITCH® --
ticketlessly -- by hitching rides on airplanes!

Get it?

WHAT the FUCK. How totally unprofessional of them! Christ, I wouldn't deal with them on the basis of their patronizing bullshit email to you alone. So you're just supposed to blindly trust their "35 years of experience" that you "don't need a ticket" to get from point A to point B, huh? And their professional advice is that "things always work out"? Jesus H. Motherfucking Christ On A Crutch. 'scuse the profane rant. And I really like how they never actually explain anything about how Airhitch works, they just mock you for asking the "wrong" questions. Sounds totally bogus to me. I would stay far, far away from them, camikay!

I would write an email back saying something like "yeah, you're right, upon further reflection I have decided that I don't think enough like you guys and my hard-earned money would be better spent elsewhere. Thanks so much for the advice, I really appreciate it. Asshole."

Yeah, that email made me a little suspicious too --- But it doesnt change the fact that I need a fricken cheap flight!!!!!! Worse comes to worse, Ive got the money for another flight and I can spend it...but Ive also got school in the fall and my 6 month vacation in Europe has kinda dwindled my savings, if ya know what I mean,.
Anybody have a suggestion for a cheap flight? Boat? Raft? I'm up for an adventure...

Oh my god, have you guys checked out the airhitch website at all? CamiKay's post got me curious so I had to have a look. And can I just say I don't think I've ever read such a load of complete and utter bollocks in my life. From what I can gather, it seems to be a scheme whereby people working for airlines are paid (bribed) by Airhitch (who of course then charge you) to get members onto empty seats on planes, without tickets. But they're clearly not very big on specifics over there at airhitch. Honestly, the writing style reminded me more of the type of stuff cults use to attract members. And the best bit - in order to become part of the 'Airhitch Network' you have to complete a form giving them details including your credit card number. As if! Don't go there people , it sounds extremely dodgy, not to mention illegal.

I definitly get a pyramid scheme vibe from that email and the website. Probably best to steer clear.
