Just a little FYI from my recent trip to CR - I used the public bus tranportation the whole time, which was awesome in itself, but definitely required a bit more patience (understanding that no one speaks english, but especially the stereotype that as a white traveler, you have lots of money... ). As a result of the latter stereotype, you are much more of a target (and if you're a solo white female traveler, even more so). So I decided to keep my big ole camping pack with me at all times, even on the long 4.5 hr bus rides. DON"T PUT IT BENEATH THE BUS - I have heard way too many stories about packs getting lifted, and not being able to get off the bus because of a "crowd" that just happens to appear by the door.... I either had it on my lap, or I sat on it, or else I wore it. SOme other riders got annoyed because it did get in the way a few times, but... better safe than sorry, right? So there's my two cents. Hope it helps!!
Hasta. :D
