Default 21 Years Old, Renting a Car out of Reno, NV

I'm trying to find the cheapest place to rent a car out of Reno for up to three weeks in July. So far express has been the cheapest, but with $20 extra a day for being 21 it's ridiculous!!!!!! Anyone have any luck with other companies? I could probably fly into LAX or Sacremento instead of Reno (I'm driving up to Nevada City, CA) so if anyone knows of a cheap place that rents to 21 year olds in those areas let me know!

Damn ageism!!

As far as I know, each company at least charges 20 extra a day. So I guess if you absolutely have to have a car then you'll just have to pay it. Otherwise, reevaluate if you absolutely have to have a car.

$20 is as good as it gets as far as I know (some are more). I once managed to get a car surcharge free through some program Enterprise had with universities, but they ended that program a few years ago.

That's the answer I assumed I would get. It's a shame. Too bad the place I'm going doesn't have much public transportation and no acess from where I'll be staying.

I don't know of any rental companies who rent to 21 year olds... I know Greyhound goes to Sacramento, and Nevada City is just on the way, so I'd look into that. I've lived in Reno my whole life and I honestly can't think of an alternative to getting a rental for 3 weeks and staying in the city. We have a bus system, but it doesn't really get you that far. Some casinos have shuttles that go up to the lake and back (I assume you'd plan on going to Lake Tahoe, it's more worth a visit than Reno is), but again that doesn't get you to Nevada City.

ya gotta get an airline gig! When I worked for the airline I had super cheap rentals and NO age surcharge! It was brilliant!
