I was wondering if anyone knew the cheapest way to get to Athens from Italy. Where is the best point in Italy to leave from? Brindisi?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Well with how cheap air fare is these days in Europe, you could check that route, people have been know to get flights around Europe with only paying for the tax, or 1Euro..what ever, so check that,

For some ferry info, try this link, might be helpful, but i am not sure how cheap it is, my ferry from Belgium, to Scotland was 75 Euro, just as an example

World Ferries

Some Italy to Greece Ferry Info ( bad pop ups)

I think this is the biggest name in European Ferry Services Could be the link your looking for.

Hope this helps some in your quest.

And WELCOME to the TravelPunk.com family!!!

ShellnJon,

check this site for ferries between Greece & Italy:

There is a Greek company called ANEK LINES, they have ferries leaving Ancona and Trieste in Italy going to Patras in Greece. I think there is one every day, at least from Trieste. It takes about thirty hours, give or take to get to Patras, after which you have to take a bus to Athens or wherever you want to go, but if you sleep on deck with the 26 and under discount a return ticket is under 100 euros.
Book early cuz if they're sold out of tickets you'll have to crash at the Trieste youth hostel, and its like the gestapo over there.
Have fun!

Okay so I found out that it is only 15 hours from Bari to Pataras, but that is 7 hours from Athens isn't it??? Do you just take the train from there? Also, how do you get from Athens to say Santorini or Mykonos?

This part is proving to be the biggest pain in the ass....

Ferry TimeTable From PIRAEUS to MYKONOS It looks to be often that the ferry runs anyway...The port is about 10km southwest of Athens

As for how you get from Patras to Athens
You can reach Athens from Patras by train. The jounery lasts about 3.5-4 hours The train terminal in Athens is called the "Larissa station"

Hope that helps
