Flying to Germany for Oktoberfest

I'm trying to get from Seattle, WA to Munich, Germany for Oktoberfest 2007 and I'm looking for travel advice. I could fly direct but the tickets are quite pricey. Has anyone made this or a similar trip before? Is there a better destination city where I could easily take the train? Any other advice to help minimize costs? Thanks a lot :)

I was looking at the same prices from Tampa and was shocked. Omid had some good advice in the Amsterdam thread. The cheapest ways of getting to Europe are usually into Dublin on Aer Lingus, Frankfurt (<- not a bad bet) on Lufthansa, Paris on Air France, Amsterdam on KLM/Northwest etc.

All that said, I just checked travelocity and on Sept 10 through Sept 17 you can fly round trip (Seattle->Chicago->Munich) for $654

That seems like a good price to me

This year Oktoberfest is Sep. 22nd through Oct. 07, so I'm thinking of flying in on the 22nd or shortly after and leaving by the 6th. I figure with two weeks I could spend a good amount of time at Oktoberfest and still have time to swing by another country or two. It looks like around $800 for a round trip but i figure every dollar i shave off the price is another dollar I can spend on

Thanks for the suggested airlines though, I'll check those out.

Why let a little thing like arriving in the US a week before it starts get in your way! :p.

I changed the dates to Wednesday Sep 19th through Thursday the 27th for $594 on United. 200 bucks in savings should buy you 20L of beer...over 5 days...which equates to a gallon of beer a day!

Can I come?
