I've gotten to thinking about two parts of my future journey...

The boat from Ireland to France
...and from Italy to Greece

17 hours for the first and about 20 for second, from what I gather. So I wanna hear some of what you guys did to keep busy. Booze and a book can only hold you for so long. I'm sure some of you got great stories.

i came onto boats with peple and pretty much spent the time talking & playing cards & eating....I dunno wasn't actually too bad....

Take some sleeping pills to knock yourself out for a while!

Nah, just kidding. A few years ago, I went skiing in France, it took over 20 hours on a coach. I swear I nearly died. At least on a boat you can get up and walk around and meet people. Take some cards and travel games... who can resist playing travel scrabble?! Certainly not me!

It depends.. I just spent an 18 hour bus ride down to florida, but i was with people I knew, and people i didn't, and i made a lot of friends... Cards, talking, taking pictures... It was all good...

Are you going alone? If so, go out and meet people! The time will def. pass by.

With friends? Even better!

some whacky tabaccy. a hacky sack... sleep, books, smoking, eating, meeting new people, cards. BOOZE.

Yeah, sleep's always good and generally while traveling lots the tiredness will hit ya on the train! Journalling, if you're into that, staring aimlessly out the window! My favorite train ride was Nice to Barcelona. A bunch of backpackers, including 2 Americans and a French guy that were very generous with their copius amounts of wine. The non-backpackers weren't too impressed, but I had fun and met some great people! I always figured I'd meet most travellers in hostels, but that certainly wasn't the case!

Booze was definately a part of the plan. In fact, I'm probably buying this. Not so much for the 'travel' aspect of it, or the 'unbreakable' nature (most flasks are metal...wouldn't you consider that unbreakable?), but because it holds 16oz - double what your average flask does.

Travel Scrabble is quite tempting, but that'd probably get cut when packing. Plus, Travel Monopoly would be even better.

I was expecting Jake to come up with all kinds of crazy/wacky/damn fine ideas to pass the time. Come on, Jakey, gimme your best shot.

Nothing too exciting here....write in journal, read, try to sleep, talk to people, etc.

It`s the longest journies that you remember the most though! So even if it`s hell you can look back on it and laugh.

hmmm you want wacky/crazy eh?

- drunk hide & go seek (including the areas that you're NOT allowed in....)
- make it "corny pick-up day" I decided to do this at a bar one night. It was a blast. Just use the most horrible cheesy pickup lines you can think of and see where it will get ya. You can have a contest w/ your friends to see who can get the most numbers/free drinks etc...
- make paper airplanes & see who's will fly the farthest away...but of course that's littering...I take that back

I dunno....that's all I've got so far...all the other one's I'm thinking of will have people hating you by the end of the trip....and that could be potentially dangerous

ok maybe not but it sounds like sleeping, dirnking, and socializing are the best options.

I got myself a Sudoku book and that kept me busy for hours (or if you've got a wireless comp you can go to Sudoku.com). I guess that's not the "crazy" way to spend time, but anything to keep me occupied on long flights is a good thing. Of course the other one I'm know for is listening to audio book on my mp3 player.
