hahahaha, that was pretty good rozza!
In the grand scheme of things, my outfits are not terribly skimpy. Most reputable dancers try to keep the flesh-baring fairly tame-- i.e. you'd see way more skin at a pop concert. Since belly dance-- Middle Eastern Dance / Danse Orientale if you're a snob-- has a very difficult time staying completely separate from stripping/etc. in the eyes of the general public, we try to keep things PG rated at MOST. I have seen some bad shit on stage. It's infrequent but it happens. So I try to impress upon my students certain standards-- i.e. belly dance is *sensual* but not *sexual*, which is a big difference. (On the other hand what they do in the privacy of their own homes is their business! LOL)
It's interesting to note that almost every single time, the girls that wear the too-skimpy costumes or sexualize their performances are usually the worst dancers, technique- wise.
Gawd, I'll get off my soap box now!
end of rant.
