The mercedes was great. I got it free (I had to replace the clutch master cylinder & hydraulics.) It's a '73 220 diesel, and probably had approximately 400k miles on it, with about 100k miles on a rebuilt engine because the original owner was bored, not because there was anything really wrong with it. I was the 3rd owner, if I remember correctly... A guy bought it new, gave it to his daughter (my roommate) who gave it to me. I loved that car. It had its little "quirks" though, like: The odometer stopped working god knows how many hundred thousand miles ago, the speedometer cable busted so I had to guess how fast I was going (something I've had experience with, haha), the gas gauge was WILDLY inaccurate below 1/2 tank (ask me how I know this), and neither of the back doors opened, the locks just... froze up or something. I didn't care enough to give a locksmith or a mechanic a few hundred bucks to take the doors apart. When the throwout bearing went bad, I sold it to a german car mechanic who then turned it into a grease car and uses it as his daily driver. You can see his process for that and a little bit of the car here.

I drove it for 2.5 years without having to do hardly ANYTHING to it except regular oil changes.

Awesome stuff, too bad you got rid of it though...that would have been a sweet ride. Looks like the guys fixing it up little by little. That would have been a pimp car here in Florida, especially being manual

don't have a pic of mine but here's one from another site:

04 jeep liberty same color. I'm thinking of raising it up a little for better offroading.

Speaking of snow & ice...

This is my baby on the way back from Kirkwood this last weekend. The driver-side door moulding had already fallen off last season due to alternating trips to the snow and the desert.. I got a little gouge in the fender from kicking up all sorts of ice and rocks.. and the lower circle indicates where a bit of the trim got torn off the fender on the other side.

I just laugh my ass off at all the giant SUVs in my parking garage at work that are super-shiny and have never gone off-road or even seen a mountain road or a speck of slush or mud. I hope their Firestones explode.

Omi that tint - does that get you into trouble with the California-Uber State patrol people?

And those wheels - what brand?

Are they actually white?

(I've been thinking of gettin white wheels for my car too..)

man where I live I couldn't have anything but a 4x4, especially in the winter.
big suvs like hummers and shit aren't even built for offroading. i can't imagine trying to drive one up an old wood path through the forest. you'd beat the crap out of it.

speaking of that when I brought my old liberty back I got bawled out by the owner of the dealership (in a joking way) for taking mine offroading and getting it scratched up...apparently if it's under lease you're not supposed to do that...

Ray - the tint on my front windows are light, totally within legal limits. The rear windows can be as dark as you want.. The car came that way when I bought it, which I really llike, considering a black interior and California sunshine are not good befellows. But legal tint is the least of my worries if I ever get nailed by Mr. Officer Man. *grin*

The wheels are the stock Borbet 15"s that came with the MkIII GTI. They're light silver, but they shine real nice, even after getting dirtied up and abused. Been thinking of replacing them with some BBS rims, but I'm waiting 'til snow season is done before I do any more cosmetic work.

Rozza - congrats on the new ride! Although I see you as being more of a VW Lupo kinda guy

Right now, I'm drooling over this snow-capable car. Can anyone spot me $80k?

My car is a '95 camaro.
It is a Z-28 with the 6speed manual cuz....well, it should be a stick
It's wearing a bra cuz the front is ugly. I got in a wreck before I went to Europe and had neither the time or money to really fix it up right. It has some alignment and paint issues but I'm just keeping it till next year when I travel the world.....or something.

I bought it in 2002 in mint condition with 47,000 miles on it for $10,500. It was blue booked at about 15,000 at the time. Probably the only good thing to come out of 9/11 was that the car dealerships were giving 0% APR to everyone which caused the used car market to take a bump and I was a benefactor.

My next real ride will probably be a Nissan Titan. I love them things

By the Tony, I have lusted after a G35 coupe for a looooooong time, I'm very jealous.

Duuuuuude I wanna drive one of those things almost as much as I wanna drive the souped-up Lotus Elise that I saw at the LA Auto Show. They look like a toooooon of fun at the track. Have you taken it the SCCA route yet or are you trying to keep it in one piece for awhile?..it looks pristine

Retro, where do you live again?

Yeah....the Elise totally rocks!!

No- I've never driven one...in fact, I've only seen one on the road, and that was in Europe several years ago...

I would *love* to take my car to SCCA races but as you know, racing is.......very expensive.

After each session we're talking new set of tires and after several races - new pads and rotors.

I might still do it someday; who knows.

I live in Jersey.....

Nice, ray!

Alright, check out this video of the Evo prototype being driven like it's meant to be. Then try to tell me you're not going to whip the shit out of your ride next time you climb in for a little drive in the woods...

I made the mistake of watching this the day before my last trip into the mountains... somehow I made it back!!

So it was all worth it
