How come none of my friends seem to be able to operate a camera? I have a zillion pictures of thumbs, blurs, my knees, my back, or me with a really stupid (drunk) expression! This is the closest to a portrait I have...

If it's a camera like the ones I've used, have your friend(s) hold down the shutter button half way with the focus box(es) aimed at you, thereby taking the focus away from the foreground.. Then snap!
