Default Fun with my new baby

... camera, that is. (No, I have not had an actual baby, but I did pay a lot of money for this one.)

A couple of weeks ago I dropped a chunk o' $$ on a Canon EOS 30D digital SLR and a couple of lenses. In between stressing out about work, a critically ill brother and general malaise I've been trying to get out of the house and learn how to use this thing. It's been quite an experience so far.

A general mish-mash:

And I love close-up photography, so I tried my hand at butterflies:

Critiques and comments welcome.

Amazing shots Jeanie! There are definately some talented TPunk photographers. I am in the market for a new camera, perhaps I should look into one of these fancy ones!

Thanks guys. The thing about the fancy cameras isn't that they cost so much and have a high learning curve-- although they do-- it's the lenses. You can go bankrupt amassing a collection. Honestly, my point & shoot takes freaking fantastic pictures but it's limiting because of the dedicated lens. I'm interested in getting (a lot) more serious about photography, so I took the plunge. I have three lenses, one of which I bought used. The good thing is that there is a camera shop nearby that rents lenses I could never even dream of affording ($2k+)!! Be still my beating heart.

Nice photos! A few of the butterfly shots were really excellent, I especially liked this one:
