yeah me either. none of you have experienced true fear until you've seen a camel spider fall from the ceiling and onto your desk at work.

I've got a picture from Venice of a seagull eating a dead pigeon if anyone is interested.
Here's a rat warning: here

Ok, about Camel Spiders... I had a dream the other night that I was driving a truck (Like a troop transport truck), that I stole, and as I was driving along there were dozens of those Camel Spiders all over the road and climbing up on the truck and it was very bleh... enough so that I woke up out of the dream, so I was able to get away from them. But it was very disturbing.

spiders aren't so bad, I feel like I have a better chance of defeating a spider than a snake. snakes are just creepy. I hate the way they slither. eeww now I'm thinking about it too much and getting freaked out!

I am not particularly fond of anything that bites, moves faster than me, or can fly. My basic rule with any living creature is you don't bother me, I don't bother you. As long as we all get along like that, I have no problem with anything.

I used to have a pet python. They are the best pets ever - they don't bark or meow or make any annoying noises, you only have to feed them once a week, and you actually look forward to feeding them because you get to watch them chase down a mouse. What more could you want?

Oh my god, that spider one shit me up!!!
I'm not too terrible with snakes, I used to be worse a couple of years ago, but for some reason I'm a bit more calm about it now. Although, you know, I don't exactly like looking at a snake chomping on a mouse.
Worst thing about snakes is when they shed their skin. That freaks me out way too much, it makes me feel so sick. My old science teacher had an old snake skin hanging over the blackboard, I wanted to throw up every time I looked at it.

I know I am going to have the heebie jeebies for days by googling this for you guys, but I want to spread the good word...
a little info about camel spiders, despite the crazy rumors that they run away with soldiers into the night and all that...
1. they have no venom
2. the can run up to 10 mph
3. on avg they're about 6in in diameter
4. they cannot jump
5. they're called camel spiders because they live in the desert, not becase they feast off of camels or something
6. they're not actually spiders, they're in the scorpion family
but still, the ones I have seen both in kuwait and afghanistan (but the ones in iraq are much bigger) are scary AS FUCK. I had one just chilling on my bed once and it was pretty big. and then when i was at work one fell from the ceiling and hit my desk with a thud. they're pretty aggressive and will chase you. our chaplain took a picture of me as I crawled up onto a filing cabinet, sobbing... haha. and then one was on the back door of the port o john so when I shut the door and locked it it was about 4 inches from my face. oh my god. I will never be the same person again.
anyhoo, on with the pictures...
if you've ever seen a camel spider pic, this is prolly the one you've seen. this makes me want to vomit and jump off a building.
this is a regular sized camel spider. still not pleasant. at ALL.
another regular sized one. ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww
you can see how they blend in with the sand.
okay that's enough. I want to now shower in bleach and check every crevice of my room because I feel my skin crawling. but at least now evertone feels the same

Oh my god Nic, that actually made my stomach hurt it's so disgusting. Whenever I see something gross, it makes my fingertips feel all funny for some reason, and they are feeling seriously wrong right now!

Oh god, do they have those in Afghanistan too? Man I thought your pics were nice but I'm not sure about ever going there now even if it is safe someday. Who cares if they have venom, they could practically take off an arm it looks like!
I don't think I can run 10 mph....
But then again, if one of those bastards was chasing me I would discover abilities I never knew I had.

they are here, but they are not as frequent visitors as in iraq in kuwait. and they're only hanging around here like may-september here.
however, you are right, I did discover superman-esque tendencies when the one fall from the celining. in seconds I had climbed up a filing cabinet that was taller than me. haha. hell no man, I don't do things that creepy crawl like that. I didn't sleep for several days because I would get under the covers and then feel something crawling up my legs or in my hair. UGH!!

I don't blame you, I probably would have been up on that cabinet with you. (of course only to console and tell you the spider isn't that bad. )
I bet a Komodo Dragon would eat those things up. Now there is something that should freak people out. But I think they are cool as hell, just don't want to be in it's sights for dinner.

they have those out here too. we had one under the walk way into our TOC and every time one of my coworkers would walk outside, it would jump out from underneath the walkway at her and she would scream and go running down the road. it was great. big freaking lizards though, sheesh.
