I recently recived my passport, (im from Canada) and I will be traveling around Central america, but I read before I can enter say Costa Rica I need to have my passport for at least 6 months. Does this mean I wasted 2000$ on plane tickets because I have not possesed my passport for more than 6 months? is this rule strictly enforced?

Thanks in advance.

I believe it just has to be valid for at least six months from when you enter. Other than that, you need to have a return airplane ticket - they really don't check much when you arrive, especially if you have your hostel's address already filled out on your landing card. When I went, the entry process was almost non-existent other than the quick glance-and-stamp except for one old guy who was scrutinizing every passport and ticket that went through his line.

Not sure about Canadian rules, but American imigration often enforce that your passports do not expire within six months during your travels.

I just don't think any passport must be held for 6 months before one can travel; that'll be odd...
