visa requirements

ok so im a little confused over visa requirements. Im hoping to go to toronto and do a mini trip to new york and then come back to toronto before i fly home. From what i understand reading the visa requirements i wont need a visa for getting into the states because i have one of those computer read passports and the uk is part of the visa waiver programme, but is this the same for canada and will my visa still be free seeing as i will be going to the states from canada? ive confused myself with all the info

If you're from the U.K. and have a valid passport you can get into Canada just fine. I know it will likely be easier than getting into the States I think. Border-crossing between Canada and the U.S. can be annoying even for anyone born in those countries! Especially as of late.
