hey guy
Im sorry I know you have herd this a thousand times over and Im just too lazy to look back and find a posting on it, but can someone please refresh my memory on how the visas work for Europe, can you just fly into a country and stay for x days or moths and then have to get out again ? Or do you need a pre approved visa ? heheh just keeping your skills sharp thanks again guys

You can stay and live in the EU for as long as you want since you have German citizenship! The rest of your life if you want! Since you have a German passport you don't need a visa for Europe at all!

you lucky guy the single european act allows for the freedom of movement of goods, people, capital and services

you can now enter any of the 25 eu countires without a visa if you have a german passport

As far as I know, that German passport is your ticket to a no time restrictied visit to Europe my friend.

Well thats what I thought but I still need to know the rules and whatnot cuase I might bring the girlfriend along and shes not quite as fortunet!
I didnt know though that I could live in ANY EU country I thought it was only Germany............well this seriously makes me rethink my 5 year plan and where Im gonna be and what Im gonna do. Right now Im thinking open a hostel on the mediterraniean and spend the rest of my days there..........

yeah but my Girlfriend is comign and she dosnt have a visa like me she only has her Canadian so what rules apply to her ?

Does this work the same for someone with a British passport? Thats what I understand... You can live and work in any EU country as long as you want if you have citezenship of another EU country...right?

To my understanding, it's a little different with British because their not part of the Schengen(the reason you don't need to go through customs in Europe). They can live for however long they want in Europe, but I think that they need a visa if they want to work. That's what an English person told me at least.

Back to the question here what are the visas regarding Canadian citizens can they go over there and get around pretty easy or what rules apply ?? I swear you guys have ADHD

The one country in Europe that comes to mind requiring a vias prior to visiting was Czech Republic but they've recently repealed that requirement. Pretty much all others will allow you to just show up at the border and get your passport stamped. Russia is another that I'm quite certain you need a pre-arranged visa to travel to. If you are staying for a few months, you may want to plan your trip since you can only spend maximum of 3 months in a six-month span in the EU something-or-other zone. I forget what its called. So you may want to do a bunch of travelling outside that zone before hand, then do western europe (or visa-versa).

Is the rule 3 months in the Schengen area without a visa? Or can you like, do 3 months in France, then 3 months in Spain, then 3 months in Portugal, and then go home?

And I have no idea about Canadians getting visa's to Europe, but I'm guessing it's about the same as the US. Really difficult. haha. I'll be applying for 1 next year so I'll tell you how that goes. OH! One thing I do know is, that the Schengen countries are going to make a central database for visa's now, so no more applying to thousands of European consulates anymore, haha, damnit!

KCL, I thought that if you were born an american citizen then you couldnt get dual citizenship. I have always been told that if you want citizenship of another country then you have to give up your american citizenship. I may be wrong but thats just what I have been told.

I have heard the same as well. Maybe I have heard wrong.

I also believe that once you renounce your US citizenship it is gone bye byes forever. And watch out, they can still tax your income for up to 10 years if your defection is believed to be fo tax reasons (just some extra info for the wanna-be-jeporadiarians out there).
