Might be a little hard to find a place to park it though.

there's enough Canadians here on the board. Ask them how they do it. After all, that's how they commute from igloo to igloo up there I hear.

That's still kind of low compared to what you could be getting out of a normal car. Mine gets 60mpg. considering these figures are more or less made up by the car companys I'd say that Jeep is more in the 20mpg range for normal everyday use.

it's just an option if you want a more efficient, compact suv. personally I'll never own another car.
the fuel efficiency rebate is a government program, doesn't have anything to do with the manufacturers. the patriot is the only non hybrid suv on the list.

I suppose it's more of an issue in Europe as we get taxed to the eyeballs on fuel. Petrol's costing between €1.14 and €1.22 per litre these days. I think that works out at $6.30 per US gallon which is twice the price you pay over there from what I could see.
It shouldn't really be opinion at this stage, oil is to precious to be wasting in cars.

I was the research assistant in college for an economics professor who speciliazed in "oil economics". he's been on CNN a few times and even created some fuel efficiency program for oil producers, whatever, he can barely fit into a room with his huge ego but he is kind of brilliant.
anyway he said that Americans shouldn't bitch about fuel prices because Americans still pay the cheapest price per gallon than any country in the world. this was in 2005 and I assume this is probably still true.
but still... it SUCKS.
