Probably. It depends, how long are you going for? Where are you going specifically?

Depends on your budget.

But lets start with $100 a day.

That comes to 77 Euro (aren't exchange rates awesome?)

then take out 20 euro a night for a hostel in a big city.
10-15 euro to see a site.

Now you have 40 odd euro.
Eat breakfast and lunch out of a grocery store (10 euro).
10 Euro cheap dinner.

That leaves you with 20 euro leftover for whatever. So you only spent $75 dollars. If you go out at night you'll spend the rest of your 20 euro on drinks.

So at about $75 a day, you can stay in europe for 27 days. Not the full "backpack europe for a summer" but you can visit a lot of places.

Hope that helps. I am doing 21 days of World Cup 2006 for $3000 including flight. I am confident I'll have enough money to buy souvenirs, soccer junk, and buy plenty of german beer. I've been saving for this for almost 2 years while in college.

only one problem with that breakdown. no travel expenses are calculated. if your 2000 is after teh purchase of a eurail pass or after you've bought plane/bus/train tickets or whatever then its pretty accurate but u have to factor in some miscellaneous costs too, cause they always appear out of no where.

Excellent point RootBrewskies. Your Eurail pass could cost you $300 or more. That would really upset your budget.

Looks like 3 weeks you can by on.

Also, being a girl you might spend more on lodging. This is a generalization that might not apply, but most girls want a private room and bathroom, so you might end up paying more.

Eastern or Western Europe? Hit up Croatia you can stay in decent places for 12 euro. Stay in London and I give you a week. With a 2000 budget, I would limit the cities to about 2-3 big ones, and 2-3 smaller day trips. You could do all of ITALY!! Rome, Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre,...milan is prolly too expensive, and maybe Paris as well. Try finding the cheapest flight that departs out of a different city of your arrival so you can work your way to that city.

I realize Loman isn't advocating spending 20 euro a day on boozing it up. However, if anyone is honestly spending more than a 1/4 of their limited budget on booze, which causes them to be able to spend less time on their trip than they planned, well, they need to re-examine their priorities.

You can get drunk back home. If this is your big backpacking trip, it won't kill you to not go clubbing every night. There. Spoken like a true 43-year old!!!

when i was backpacking i spent about 40euros a day. this included food accomodation and visiting places. (i already had a interrail pass for transport) if you only have a limited budget i would reccomend going to eastern europe and then you can stay away longer and get more for our money.transport there is really really cheap as is everythign else. you could prob travel there for a month with 2000$ maybe longer if you are really careful with money. i payed about 7 euros a night for hostels in eastern europe.

My main concern is also getting from one location to another... I think it depends WHEN you want to backpack around Europe. If you want to go during the off-season, you could get flights from easyjet or from ryanair for super super cheap. If you want to go during the busy season, you can still get reasonable airfare sometimes, if you are really flexible. Trains can be expensive. If you are going in between two places that are too close to have flights or the flights are too expensive, look for buses and/ or night trains (https://buchung.nachtzugreise.de/boo...385730441&l=GB).

It also depends on where you want to go. London is terribley expensive if you want to drink, but you can get a hostel for not TOO much and all the museums are free. So if you want to do nothing but go to cool museums for a couple days, I'd say go to London. I've heard expensive things about Oslo, and it is officially the world's most expensive city this year.

You can booze it up pretty much every night for a lot less than 20 euro a night. A better time is often had drinking store bought liquor at the hostel or park with fellow hostel-mates than going to clubs.
