Allright, so in 5 days I leave.
I just recently found out that my program in England doesnt allow very much travel time (1 or 2 days) between classes and field trips, etc.
So I'm planning on adding a week and a half to see Ireland and Scotland.
Can I do it for $500 or less? Including hostels, transportation, food. And then I have to swing back down to London for my flight..
My parents said it has to be $500 or less or else I can't do it. =(
Just wondering if this was possible.
I have all my gear and clothes and everything.

you should be able to do it, you will have to make the most of cheep travel. use coaches instead of trains as they are about half the price often, and don't go crazy on the drink find palces to eat that are quite cheep, or buy from a supermarket and eat at hostel.

your problem is going to be transportation. its 185 USD to go from London to Edinburgh. and 247.00 USD for a round trip just between the two citys. IF you only want to see the two citys that gives you 25 USD a day. (assumeing 10 days) food it self can run from 15 to 30 a day . ....SO I would recomend a MINIMUM of 650 for these two cityies alone. that would give you 40USD a day. 7 per meal and 19 per Hostel. its would be tight even on 40USD a day.

see if you cant beg your parents for an extra 150 to thier limit

I'm a bit confused as to when you will be traveling. Do you leave in 5 days for your classes and such, or will you be starting your journey in 5 days?

Even, for example, about a week from now (if you're leaving in 5 days on your journey), you can fly from London-Stansted to Dublin for about 55 pounds.
There are many more deals to be had...but let us know when you'll be taking your journey and we can probably offer even more help.

I'm leaving in 5 days to go backpacking a bit. My London study abroad beings on June 8th, and goes till July 9. But I won't be able to see Ireland and Scotland until July 17, as a friend is coming to visit me that previous week. So basically, July 17 and onward is my plan...prime time I know. =( Couldn't help it!
haha..maybe because there are so many people visiting then, they'll lower the prices? Send people off in bulk?
One can dream..
I could handle sleeping outside for a couple nights. Always up for an adventure !

They have some bus fare deals running so try it and see if it helps you at all. It looks as if they have 10 pound one ways and 20 pound round trips. Also remember that Ireland is on the Euro which is better for the dollar than the pound. Ryan Air will have some good deals even then except they will just be fuller planes. 500 is really pushing it so you will have to eat very cheaply at grocery stores and such. Definately get in on hostel breakfasts and load up as much as you can then. May offer to do some extra chores for the next few days before you leave and when you return in order to get a bigger parental budget? The work will be worth it trust me.

Just played with the national express thing. LOOK FOR **1** pound fares! That could really work in your favor! THey do not go to all the places but they cover a lot.

cellophane: I will be in Amsterdam from May 28 to May 30 (if memory serves me correctly). Congrats on the cheap bus ticket! It is online only so you have to buy it before you go (heck its only 1 pund anyway!)
